I don't see how Military History makes him a nerd. I'm sure it's the knowledge of PC parts and his gaming ways that makes him a nerd.

It's a combination of both really. I just found it amusing that he couldn't just admit straight away that he's a geek. Not that I'm suggesting that I'm not a geek myself - indeed, I freely admit it - but anyone our age who gets hard-ons for tanks shouldn't deny that they are a geek.
