Not traditional ballads as such, but BY GOLLY do Dream Theater know how to pen a melody when they ease back.

Porcupine Tree do some bloody lovely ballads I tell ya. Mellotron Scratch is my favourite, Lazarus is also lovely, and My Ashes from FOABP is brilliantly nice. Enjoyable.

Aye,good band.Their second album "Jocks know nowt about music,they are too busy balancing chips on their shoulders" is a genre classic.
