Let's talk about Iron Maiden

Postby jonny_boy34 on Wed Sep 19, 2007 12:12 pm

Because they're one of the best bands in the world and there isn't a general thread about them yet. Bring Your Daughter just came on my itunes and made me feel all lovely and happy and warm inside so I thought I'd take this opportunity to discuss how amazing they are. They may be annoying me recently with some of their silly decisions and uninspired songwriting, but they're still unbelievable and the tour next year is going to be the most brilliant thing in the world. Powerslave and Rime of the Ancient Mariner live, who would ever bloody imagine it!

Now it's time for Sign of the Cross from Rock In Rio. What an unbelievable thing. It's secretly one of Maiden's best songs, the horrible production of the X Factor and terrible singing of Blaze just makes you think otherwise. But on RIR it's ridiculously brilliant.

I love Iron Maiden.

I am looking forward to seeing them live next year, should be really good with Powerslave, Somewhere In time and Seventh Son of A Seventh Son. To be honest I think the last album is one of the worse albums they have done, even worse than the Blaze Bailey stuff. I could not get into the stuff they did with Blaze. I didn't like his singing when he was in wolfsbane.

Iron Maiden are winnarz!

I think almost everyone has a Maiden patch, cd and t shirt.

Powersalve tour will be amazing. Saw them on early days and it was pure sex so I can't wait.

Ah yes, the hilarious album that was A Matter of Life & Death. As soon as they announced the album title I thought it was ridiculous and not going to be very good. But I did actually like it very much when I first heard it (apart from These Colours Don't Run and Out of the Shadows which I thought were pretty awful). I got bored of it very quickly though, and now agree that it's a pretty poor album, with the exception of The Pilgrim, The Legacy, Brighter Than A Thousand Suns and The Longest Day. Overall I think it's better than Dance of Death, which was definitely as bad as the Blaze albums, despite the couple of good tracks it had. Well, even the Blaze albums had a couple of good tracks. But yes, it'd definitely a poor album.

I'd hoped that doing the early days tour would remind them of how amazing the first few albums were and would perhaps encourage them to write more 'classic' style songs, but it obviously didn't. Brave New World was amazing though, bloody unbelievably amazing. A wonderful combination of classic goodness and slight proggy goodness. Brilliant. The Thin Line Between Love & Hate is a ridiculously amazing song, as is Ghost Of The Navigator and The Nomad and pretty much every other song on that album too.

I could definitely write an essay on Iron Maiden.

Iron Maiden are the greatest band of all time. There's no debate. The only thing I've ever disliked with the band is a lot of Bayley's vocals. Some good, mostly shite. The songs themselves are great though, and I think should be redone with Bruce. Both Dance of Death and A Matter Of Life And Death are superb. It took me a while to get into them, but they are brilliant.

Can't wait to see them at Wacken, it shall be happy pants time.

I'd love it if if they rerecorded a 'Best of Blaze Era' CD with just the best songs redone by them with good production and Bruce. Both The Clansman and Sign of the Cross in Rock in Rio are amazing and unbelievable.

I just can't be bothered with Dance of Death anymores. Again, like the new album, when DOD first came out I thought it was amazing because I was so excited about having a new Maiden album. But after a while, I really began to dislike it. The only songs I can truly enjoy on that album now are Rainmaker, Paschendale, Monstegur and Face In The Sand. Dance of Death and Journeyman are good but a bit silly, DOD sounds like an hilarious jig and Journeyman has a stupid childish (lyrically) and lazy (musically) chorus, which ruins an otherwise lovely track. And the production's awful, it's just generally a very average album in my honest opinion. AMOLAD's better because it's more solid and has a better production, but it still suffers from problems of repetition in terms of song structure, and also the same chord progression (E/C/G/D) is used about 50 billion times in every song (it is the basis for the verse, bridge and chorus of These Colours Don't Run! If that isn't unoriginal and uninspired, I don't know what is). I just expect better from a band as unbeleivably amazing as Iron Maiden.

But I'm focussing a bit too much on the negative, they're still basically the best band in the world. I still think that Bruce Dickinson is the best front man of all time. I haven't seen anyone as mad as him, who can run back and forward along the stage and do flying kicks and jump around everywhere whilst still doing the best singing in the world. What a great chap.

Indeed they are. And that sounds like a very good plan. I'd enjoy that. What do you think of Bruces version of Di'Anno songs?

Welcome to the world of Harris! - It wouldn't be the same without it. I'd be disapointed if they didn't use that chord progression. Maiden's signature sound. With a lot of members and eras, it's that one thing that they hold onto that never changes.

Fuck yeah it does. That's mint.

I don't understand why everyone bums Slayer so hard, but I just deal with it

Anyway, Iron Maiden, woo! I've heard a rumour that they will be focusing on Powerslave, Somewhere and Seventh Son, but they'll be throwing in other classics like Hallowed and Trooper in as well. The whole Wacken crowd singing along to Hallowed would be orgasmic!

A similar thing to Iced Earth's 'Days of Purgatory', which was awesome!

Anyways, Maiden rule! I've probably heard all of it over time, but I actually only own 1 CD (Piece of Mind, lost the disc now anyway :( ) and a couple of LPs, saw them at Download, twas a great end to the weekend, my brain was mashed up into to squares and seeing Iron Maiden was like being in rehab (that and the fact we had drank all of our beer and nearly finished our bud haha)... seriously wicked band whose influence on metal will never end!!!! :rockdevil:
