Have there really been any more stabbing than usual though? Whilst the BBC seems to report a fatal stabbing in London every week, I would find it hard to give credence to the notion that the whole city has gone ape-shit all of a sudden with the result that knife crime has sky-rocketed. I have to believe that people can tell the difference between fact and selective media-coverage but have also begun to notice people talking about knife crime now the way it was fashionable to talk about paedophiles five years or so ago...

I think it's a bit of both to be honest. There's a bit of a rise, so the media clambers all over it so any future stabbings can fill lots of space. It's probably being blown out of proportion, but it's not necessarily a bad thing if it causes action to be taken, within reason, you tabloid cockmuffs.

I wouldn't be surprised if the increased media coverage has spurned it on, to be honest. The kids are perhaps trying to make names for themselves or trying to gain "respect".

It just annoys me to hear some twat start with the line, 'Further evidence of Britain's knife-carrying culture... '. Fair enough, there is nothing positive about knife crime but I'd stop short of making out that Britain is a nation of knife-wielding thugs. Sorry if I'm dragging the thread away from where it started but, when reading stuff like this, I get quite annoyed. I'm kind of waiting for someone like Monkey Dust or whatever to do a satire on it.
