just the one, they are playing matlock supported by heretic doing an acoustic set, here are the details : http://p098.ezboard.com/Shooglenifty/ff ... =330.topic

not sure how well they will go down tho, as they all have dodgy taste in jumpers, and have been known to imbibe real ale, but not one whisker can the heretic lads grow between them, let alone a wied beardy thing on their faces!!

Well I've now updated the post images with the ones from the old template as well as darkened down the grey a bit.

Someone mentioned re-skinning the current forum to look like the old template - if you've got a week to spare to convert a completely different non-W3C-valid HTML 4.01 template over to a W3C-compliant XHTML template complete with Search Engine Optimisation and all of phpBB3's new features, then drop me an email. I, on the other hand, don't have the time, so you're stuck with what you've got.

To be honest, there isn't actually much difference colour-wise between this forum and the old one. The main colour is a very dark grey (CSS hex is #111 - the lowest you can go without going to black which is #000).

Maybe you want to take a look at the markup for phpBB2's subBlack template and then take a look at phpBB3's proDark template and get back to me?

The differences between phpBB2 and phpBB3 are so big that it would take at least a week to convert a phpBB2 template for phpBB3. It isn't a case of changing the CSS and a bit of the HTML - the whole thing is vastly different, and this is coming from someone who's skinned both versions multiple times.

Edit

As far as differences between XHTML and HTML go, there are quite a few:
  • As you mentioned, tags have to be self-closing, so a "/>" at the end of <img> and <input> tags for example
  • All tags have to be lower-case
  • All tag attributes have to be double-quoted
  • Some attributes have become depreciated and are no longer used in favour of CSS
  • The <font> tag has been removed entirely from the W3C specification

Those are the ones that came off the top of my head.

Well the difference is obvious since phpBB2 is proper old and lacked so many features the current forums have they had to come out with phpBB3 and obviouslly account for all the new web 2.0 craze. Sort of IE6 thing.

BTW Anyone got IE8 yet? Apperantly it passes acid 2 test, yet it breaks this forum a bit lol

Being a Fedora 8 Linux user I don't really keep up-to-speed with M$ developments, let alone try out stuff that's only in beta versions, though both my desktop and laptop tri-boot it with XP MCE and Vista Business so that I can still provide tech support for people on Windows

Google found this: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2008/0 ... acid2.aspx

I doubt if IE8 will actually be any more decent or revolutionary than IE7 was (and that was just badly copying various other tabbed browsers). That said, I'll wait until the release versions and see what happens.

I must say the division between posts and avatar etc is not as clear as before and makes it a little uneasy on the eye!

The short answer is yes, and no. Yes it does use the template system, and no I don't have the time to start messing around with another template. If someone wants to go away, skin the forum and give me the template, then they're by all means welcome to, but apart from that, this ain't changing, so get used to it or go fuck yourself.

The long answer is this:

phpBB2 and phpBB3 - as I've already said at least once - are extremely different in functionality, features and design. The upgrade from phpBB2 to phpBB3 isn't just whacking a new template over the top of phpBB2 - it's completely replacing the old HTML - so old templates will not work with the new version.

And believe me, I know what I'm talking about. I'm a freelance developer with about five clients and my own custom-coded PHP content management system in the alpha stages of testing. I've skinned phpBB2 and phpBB3 to two separate site layouts (UK Thrash and WWRY-London) as well as various other bits of web software like Wordpress blogs and Coppermine galleries.

The current layout is staying as it is, those who don't like it can piss and moan to their heart's content. When I have a spare week to sit down and write a template to look like the old forum then I might do it, but don't expect anything this side of June.

Change happens. Get used to it - or fuck off and die.
