True!

Is that actually the reason he uses the name?

No, the reason he changed his name is because his real name is William B. Bailey. If I were called William B. Bailey, I'd probably change my name too. Similarly, Izzy Stradlin's real name is Jeffrey Isabelle and Slash's Sol Hudson.

When I was still committed to forming a Hair Metal band with Keith from Amok, I was going to change my name from Iain Atkinson to Michael Valentino and Keith from Keith Henderson to Rikki Thunder.

It's just one of those things that need to be done if you're wanting to get lots of smack and fan-dan just for playing Hair Metal.

That would be missing the fundamental point of name-changing. Iain Atkinson, though a brilliant name for, say, a PI, politician or what have you, lacks the level of sex appeal necessary for a Hair Metal guitarist. Michael Valentino, on the other hand, oozes sex appeal because it suggests Italian lineage and American Hair Metal guitarists of Italian decent invariably get the best fan-dan.

Axl was actually the psuedonym he used in a band early on and it stuck , so he legally changed it.

Does Guns 'n' Roses not actually come from Tracii Guns and Axl Rose?

Someone was telling me th'other day that Slash took credit for writing a lot of Guns's riffs on the first album. Anyone know if there's any truth in that?

Not always.

He used that Mockingbird live for You Could Be Mine and the liner-notes to the first album seem to suggest that he used other guitars as well.

I've heard that Guns And Roses are a band, is this true?

No, I'm pretty sure an anagram of Axl Rose would have to have the same number of letters.
