It doesn't mean anything if you make something that should be based on thought compulsory - it's just like baptising an infant child.

When I was at Cubs/Scouts we had to salute the Union Jack and pledge duty to God and the Queen - do you think most people who did that have been particularly impacted? No. That's why I would agree that this is a pretty useless scheme, even if I personally wouldn't object to what is essentially a symbolic act.

Yeah, stuff like this shouldn't be compulsory. I think this thread alone has proved that not everybody stands for it. Having an option to do so at a given time may not be such a bad thing, but it's like when younglings get baptised, then they're pretty much told they believe in God. That's a pile of crap. I remember saying the Lord's Prayer at primary school, and saying Grace. I can still remember all the words, but I don't remember actually once genuinely thinking "Thank you God for this food we recieve". It's like, this blatantly came from Tesco. Cheers Tesco.
