I'd have to go for City.

City's the only one I've got. I heared another one that wasn't so bad too. I think it was the second to last album they did. I saw them live once too. It was Zimmers Hole, Devin Townsend and SYL, all in 1 night! He must have been fucking knackered coz he's in 2 of those bands and I think he does guest stuff with Zimmers Hole?
I didn't mind city, Detox is a cool song, but I'm not a massive fan of em.

I don't like this band at all. It's WAY overproduced, and the stupid 'humour' puts me off massively. He's a talented guy for sure though.

What I mean was, I have City, but I've heared another one that I can't remember the name of and that one was the second to last one. Or something.

That would be Alien.
And to the rest of you;

Please. I love Dark Angel. I have Leave Scars on LP for fucks sake but Strapping are far from boring.

Wall of Sound =/= overproduced.
If anything, SYL and DTB productions are some of the best I've heard. It's as dense as the music requires - I mean, hell; Devin does 20+ takes for vocals and throws them all together on some songs (both SYL and solo) - and yet, most of the time, he sounds like just one very loud singular person. Even on the songs he is doing 20+ simultaneous layers.
Suffice to say, SYL is dense - because that's what they need to sound like. You can't see an SYL album being thinly produced, can you? (ie; lacking all the samples, lacking all the multi-tracking... it'd just sound wrong)
That being dealt with...
My favourite SYL album would probably be City... though, for the sheer ability to repel anyone else from talking to me, Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing is awesome too. And I really love some moments on the self-titled album. Alien was kinda "meh" to me... it's cool, but just not as good as previous efforts. The New Black is pretty good, IMO.
Personal opinion for SYL albums, strongest to weakest;
City
Strapping Young Lad
The New Black
Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing
Alien
Yes, I put Alien after HAARHT. I like noise; not much more to add than that.

I don't think there is any other sensible number one choice, although other DT/SYL stuff is great. For all of you who don't get it...
