WHY DON'T PEOPLE LIKE CIDER?!?!?!
Seriously...?! have you lot only tried shitty cider like Blackthorn, Strongbow, £2-from-the-offy-cos-i'm-too-poor-for-decent-cider cider, etc?!?!
I LOVE cider... sweet and crispy, perfect for cilling out! Thatchers factory is only a few miles from my house aswell- Cheddar Valley from the barrels is fookin tasty, and will get you mashed!
I tried to but can't actually think of an alcoholic drink that I won't drink! It's all good
Faves are:
Morgan's Spiced and ginger beer
Thatcher's: gold, cheddar valley, Katy, old rascal
Old bristolian cider (8.4%!!!)
Crabbies ginger beer
MEAD!
ales - stronger the better (McEwans champion, Adnam's Broadside, Old Tom anyone?!?) but not the ones that taste of burning or coffee

Re: Booze Thread
I can't stand cider or lager (from cans, at least) unless it's Holstein, which is quite nice. If I just wanna get pissed then I normally go for the polish stuff, cos it's dead cheap and a fair bit nicer than Stella or Fosters, or Carling which is more like stagnant water than beer. Love ale though, generally Newcastle Brown or London Pride because that's all I can ever find, but as long as it isn't fruity tasting I'll be happy. I've made quite a few batches of home brew before, which normally turns out quite well, and I'm gonna move on from bitter and pale ale and have a try at making a stout soon. Outside of beer I also like scotch, especially the peaty tasting stuff, and mead, which is a brilliant drink but way too hard to find. Overall favourite would have to be Guinness though.

Yeah mead is great, it's strange how different kinds of drink cause different kinds of drunkeness. On the rare occasions when I've found some mead for sale I've had nice times drifting in a honey-flavoured haze with heavy metal in the background. It also makes one feel like an Anglo-Saxon.

I like to listen to folk metal whenever I have mead, however sad that is. I used to know a German guy who was really big on all that stuff, I went over to his house a couple of times and we got pretty pissed drinking it out of this massive drinking horn he had with a load of weird east european pagan metal bands playing in the background. Unfortunately I don't have his number and I think he moved house, which is a pity because the rest of my friends are too kvlt and straight faced to listen to anything about vikings, let alone have fun while doing it.

Have any of you got any proper "real ale" pubs near you??
They are best. My fave here in burton is the coopers tavern ( http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/34227/ ) its great, not full of lager louts and nobheads, it has no music and is frequented by old blokes with beards and combovers that look like open university lecturers hahaha, but it serves its beers straight from the barrell. 90% of what it sells are beers from small micro-breweries and every time you visit there are plenty of new and different beers. they serve cask ciders and perries too, you know 8% with bits floating in them that taste of apples and pears like they should do!! They will let you sample before buying, and the average price of a pint is £2.60!! Good selection of food matching the place too, faggots, pork pies, pickled eggs etc. Every town should have a pub like this. Forget all this chemically infused mass production lagers and shitty ciders, seek out your local CAMRA recommended pub.

Yeah those places are the best, but I can't seem them ousting Wetherspoons etc. from highstreet locations any time soon.
Also a shout out to G&T, it's like drinking a refreshing liquified crystal with a pleasingly bitter finish... and has the potential to be rather strong too!

I guess Cider is a love it or loathe it experience. Personally, I am not a big fan. My mate used to go down to Wookie Hole and bring back gallons of the stuff, from local farms, in petrol containers. To me, it tasted like he had petrol mixed in with it He swore it was lethal, yet I drank a gallon of it and it had no effect whatsoever, except to give me a dodgy tummy the next day.
I have tried loads of other bottled ciders and used to go the "Cider House" local pub, where they had loads of different draught brews, and never liked any of it much. Best of the lot was my mate's homebrew. He crushed the apples in his garage's vice and, when it was ready, it tasted of iron filings.
I do like a bit of Perry though.
My personal poison is either German Dark Hefeweizens or Belgium Trappist monk ales. I liked Porters and Stouts too, but not stuff like Guinness/Murphys. That's the Stella of the Stout world - the best known, but nowhere near the best. Compare it to Hook Norton Double Stout, or a Russian Imperial Stout.
Can't stand wine of any type, except Mead on occassions. No matter how good people say it is, it all tastes like Sarsons to me I also can't stand the snobbery that seems to surround it.
I remember asking for Mead at a Medieval night in Windsor, some years back, and the barman hadn't a clue what I was talking about! I pick up a load of it at the Tewksbury Medival Festival each year. The Drunken Monk people have a large range.
I was never much into spirits, though I used to get through a fair amount of Wild Turkey Bourbon in my 20s. I also used to trade CDs with a Bulgarian guy. He couldn't afford to buy CDs, so he used to send me 3 bottles of the local Vodka in exchange for a CD. That cost him the equivalent of a couple of quid + postage. In the end, I had more bottles than I knew what to do with, and started flogging them off.

Where would I go about getting these things from? I've always had the sneaking suspicion Guinness would be crap compared to a non-commercial stout, but I've never been able to try anything else so that's my only experience of the darker stuff so far.

Most supermarkets I go to carry Hook Norton's Double Stout. Marston's Oyster Stout is a good one that you can pick up in most supermarkets too - http://www.marstonsbeercompany.co.uk/ou ... rstout.asp
Russian Imperial Stout is not so easy to get hold of, as most of the best ones are from the US these days. Samuel Smiths Old Brewery (Tadcaster) do a decent Russian Imperial Stout. It's quite light compared to usual Imperial stout - 7%. Usually they are between 8% - 11% abv. Beers of Europe have a decent list of Imperial Stouts for sale, including Samuel Smiths. http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/acatalog/ (search by category - imperial stout)
Here's a good one I came across, though it would be nigh on impossible to get hold of it again over here - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/112/412
