I'm not. I stopped caring about other people's tastes a long time ago and whether my opinion is better etc.

Besides I listen to a lot of other metal as well such as Black, Gothic, Doom, Viking, Non to fruity power etc.

But there are some bands that still piss me off as some people go nuts over such as Dragonforce, and CoB.

DF I can understand, but what do you have against CoB? Agreed, they're not to everyones tastes but they're damn original and really helped the Finnish scene to progess to the best music scene in the world.

It is the keyboard solos in CoB that get on my tits.

Fair enough, though I enjoy them as they add to the power metal part of the band.

I hate Alexi Laiho as well as the music except for the occasional song such as Angels Don't Kill. The material they did as Inearthed before they changed their name to CoB wasn't to bad though not very tight musically. Did you see that interview with him in Terrorizer a few months ago? What a tit.

Was that the one where he slagged off John Petrucci? That was funny, though he did apologise afterwards and say he was very drunk when he was quoted saying all that stuff.

I listen to other sorts of metal but yeah,I'm a thrash elitest!I'm fuckin' passionate and don't give a flyin' fuck about anyone callin' me narrow minded!!I'll be totally honest about what I totally relate to!I meet so many people when I go out to my local that are too scared to admit their absolute unequivical commitment to a certain genre just in case they get branded narrow minded or whatever!!
A rasta is totally honest about regge being their life passion so why can't we metal heads be totally straight down the line about our life passion in music!?!

I'm definitely a thrash elitist! I try hard to keep opinions to myself but they just slip out.....

Woah - zombie thread!

I wouldn't say I'm a thrash elitist. I listen to everything from jazz and blues to grindcore & black metal and everything in between. My genre of choice though, is thrash, having been around since it started it holds so many good memories of finding new and exciting music and some awesome gigs.

Personally, I wouldn't care about what anyone said about my musical tastes on an internet forum or real life - it's just banter for the most part. If someone wants to have a culinary trombonist [sic] getting wound up about someone else's record collection, that's their problem.

If it's good, listen to it.

Just remember that nobody else knowing about a band doesn't make a difference to how good the music is.

Kind of true, but I honestly tend to find that most of the obscure stuff is infinitly better than most of the metal you see people talking about. I'd rather listen to Pariah or Bulldozer than any of the thrash bands you'll find in magazines etc.

I think James' post is pretty much spot on though, when you love a certain genre you tend to discover more bands automatically. The problem is that unfortunately, some people are fucking stupid/lazy and they'll hear about six thrash bands and assume that they're the only good ones. I've had many conversations with say, Exodus fans who claim to be die-hard thrashers, yet when you mention a band that are only slightly less famous (Vio-lence or Tankard for example) then they say 'Never heard of them, they must be shit' and then leave it at that. Their stupidity/fanboyism/laziness prohibits them from listening to anything outside of Metal Hammer because apparently if its not in a mainstream magazine then its not good.

'Elitist' is a bit of a crap term but I suppose at the end of the day, I'd fit into that catagory perfectly. Thrash > you.

metallica/megadeth/slayer fans are better example in my oppinion :D

but yeah most of more unknown bands are better like: Vio-Lence Heathen and Atrophy etc...

I'm not gonna look down on anyone that doesn't know a lot of bands.

That's just silly.

I'd be a bit miffed if someone doesn't like Victims of Science for example, but that's fair enough, that's what they like, if they don't know it - they don't know it!

I'm not gonna look down on someone purely because of what they listen to. Having said that, when I see people in Slipknot / Trivium shirts I can't help but judge and giggle a bit inside; more in a way of 'they don't know what they're missing', but I'm sure they're still nice people.

To summarise:

I'd say if anything I'm more of a life elitist than a thrash elitist.

If you have a rubbish life, gutted. Ha ha.

See, whenever I witness someone in a Trivium shirt or an emokid wearing an Anthrax hoodie (and I've seen that too many times!) I can't help but laugh out loud and call them a fag. I'm just a bad person haha :(
