Are they though? I think if you're mental enough to kill someone, for a start, nine times out of ten you're going to expect to get away with it or you wouldn't do it in the first place. I hardly think it'd make people think twice at all. Imagine Ian Huntley when he killed them two wee girls: "Oooh... best not go through with this actually, with the death penalty and all..." - I doubt it.

I think a cool idea for a film would be a state in the future which has a lot of public human rights pressure, and yet totally full up prisons, so they secretly offload a bunch of their worst offenders into some blasted warzone and abandon them there. The film would mainly follow the fate of the main character, who was innocent all along. He has to try to make it home while avoiding all the war going on, and also avoiding several of the total maniac prisoners who have been let loose and always hated him and want him dead.

And maybe a cool twist would be that he finally fights and sneaks his way home (dispaching most of his convict enemies), to find that he WAS actually guilty - he was just psychotically deluded the whole time and could not comprehend or remember his guilt. When he finally realises, he heads back out to the warzone to meet whatever fate awaits him there. And it ends.

I've never really believed in the death penalty, a quick death by lethal injection or hanging etc seems to me like to much of an easy way out for people who have committed some truly horrific murders.

But people who are given the death penalty should be sent to some sort of hardcore work camp, be forced to work 20 hours a day and live off of really crappy food for the rest of there lives, I know I'd rather be dead than have to live like that.

Why don't we just make them into slave labour, therefore removing some of the demand for immigrant workers?

I hope I wasn't the only one who laughed at this.

Obviously it's a horrible thing to have happened but it just reminds me of that scene in Team America when he gets passed a hammer instead of a Cyanide capsule.

As for the death penalty, nah. Allegedly the death penalty was only abolished de jure in 1998.

I'd watch this but I know the ending now. Couldn't he turn out to be a woman instead?

Better to give him the Death Penalty than Friends of Hell. The production on that one wasn't too good.

Murder either is a crime or it isn't. If it is, then capitol punishment is also a crime. And if it isn't....

I think we all thought of that connection, but oddly enough no one posted it. :o
