Wembley Parking

Postby James on Thu Jan 29, 2009 10:59 pm

I'm trying to work out the best way to drive to the Priest Feast gig at Wembley arena, and wondered if anyone here has done so or heard of any good options?

There is official car parking at the arena but you need to book it in advance, it's probably really expensive and it will be chocka-block trying to get out again.

The ideal solution would be some fairly close tube station where we could leave the car, then train the rest of the way. Does anyone know if the Wembley area is in the congestion charge?

Thanks.

Well it's the kind of thing you could search around about for ages but if people know from experience then you could easily miss good tactics.

Drove to wembley, parked in one of their car parks without booking in advance, took a copy of the setlist in hand and edged to the exit in the last song and got out very easily!

All I know is, after Metallica, EVERYWHERE was rammed, the walk back to the station wasn't moving, so perhaps it's not a bad thing to be stuck in your car, sitting, in the warm, listening to more tunage, for the jam to clear up!

It's not in the congestion charge zone, in fact, it's nowhere near it really. Avoid the official car park, but there are loads of little car parks all around it that are usually pretty safe, manned by men with big glow sticks. I parked in one of them when I went to see Heaven and Hell, it was easy to get there and easy to get back.

However, it can probably be very confusing for someone who hasn't driven there before, with all the one way systems and such like. Just make sure you look up an A-Z beforehand. Nice.

By the way, Faraaaz, weren't you at the O2 Arena for Metallica? Oh wait, yes I remember we saw them at Wembley Stadium too. Jamie drove for that and it took aaaages to get out of the official car park, and it's stupidly expensive. Definitely go for the little illegal car parks around the place, nice.

Billy found a suggestion from somewhere that you can park at Wembley Park tube then walk to the arena, which sounds a possibility. We will just have to go in nice and early, because I've never even driven into London before!

Yeah, it is pretty shit. Bloody traffic, bloody hell.

Don't park at the tube station though James, bloomin' christ. There really are loads of those little car parks everywhere near the place, much nearer than the tube station. I think along 'First Way' (that's the name of the road) is where I parked last time.

Also, you shouldn't have to drive anywhere near central London to get to Wembley, I don't think. It's off the North Circular (A406 West/East, depinding on if you're coming from the North/South respectively, I think!). I don't know which way you'll be coming from though, so maybe, I don't bloody know.

I would do a dummy run if it wasn't such a waste of petrol; I'll be coming from Essex, so north-east of Wembley. These little car parks sound good, I'm sure we will come across one by roaming the area earlier in the day. If we set off around lunch time, or even earlier, then we will have plenty of time to beat the traffic, find somewhere to park then chill out for a bit.

My dad has a Tom Tom but I doubt he'd want me taking it... actually I've just remembered the rest of the family is driving to Derbyshire that weekend, so they will have it anyway. But I think you can get printed out route plans from them, which would be ideal.
