Just read the Silmarillion when Elves lived in massive walled cities and cave fortresses. Well, there were the elves in Doriath forest, but their actual base was a massive cave complex in the middle called Menegroth. Fair enough the elves of Ossiriand were a bit lar-de-dar naturists. But seriously you guys.

I have nothing against dwarves (they made some sexy weapons for one thing), I just wish you could like both races, both excellent races.

Don't anyone dare try and dislike Pan's Labyrinth. It's one of the greatest movies ever made. And it's really a war movie, and the fascist captain is scarier than any of the horrible fantasy creatures, which is the amazing thing. The acting is amazing, the story is amazing, the bloody colours and shit are amazing, and the emotional madness is wonderful. If you don't like films with subtitles, you're rubbish.

Did you find a bit of mostly like, and then, and then, and then. Apart from about the middle of the book?
The start of the book is a bit hard to read. Well it used to be when i first picked it up, but i mean even now the start isnt amazing. Reaching before Turins life, then his life, and afterwards. Thats the best part by far.

Re: The new Dr Who! Who?
I didn't mind that at all, as it was never polished off into a coherent narrative by Tolkien himself: Christopher his son has tried to form all the material into a narrative and I find it works fine, because there are so many different things going on with different people and places, that I don't see how else it would have been achieved.
C. Tolkien says that in editing Unfinished Tales he did not attempt to create a narrative, and it comes across as much more fragmentary for that reason. Still interesting, but you are reading little segments that wouldn't fit together much unless you'd already read The Silmarillion.

I gave up on The Silmarillion after about one and a half chapters. But I've still got the book, so I'll probably try again someday, as I'm better at reading now.
