Wow, what a night!
Damnas, Sigil and Local Mad Man all pulled out unstoppable sets, great stuff from all 3. Denounce are a band worth checking out for anybody who likes At The Gates. Certainly not very original, but pretty good at doing what they did. also the Kick Kick Murder Squad (who everybody seemed to miss) were awesome, filthy hardcore wth tones of feedback and even poetry between songs... you know its ear murder!
Anybody who knows the set-up at the unicorn will be familiar with the way the mixing desk is at the edge of the stage and how that it usually wouldn't really be a problem. but for a band like Extreme Noise Terror who not only packed the placed out from the front of the stage to the back of the bar, they are followed by a legion of dirty crusties who love to pit, stage dive and throw their beer around. oh and spit. so being at the front of the stage doing the sound turned from a good old laugh, to... what i can only describe as "gonzo sound engineering". an experience i'm never going to forget, but totally life affirming. Extreme Noise Terror are something else!
drenched in beer (which was ironic as i couldn't drink because i was driving), well battered by the punks and knackered from another weekend of long driving, i got home at something stupid like 4:45am (i had to take faraz to a 24 hour Burger King, it was the rules) pretty content for being at what will be one of the gigs of the year for me.
