As soon as they covered "Phantom of the Opera"(NOT the Maiden one), I knew they had turned to shit.
BTW- Don't you love the way jonny_boy34 said "Hello" at the start of his post?
What a polite young man.

I gave my seat up in the chemists to an old crippled woman today, whilst waiting for my prescription. It made me feel like a jesus.

I crippled a man once, just so I could give him my seat on the bus. Now that is polite!

Best thing you have ever said.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Don't like the new samples, not that I'm a big Nightwish fan anyway. The new vocalist sounds familiar though.
Apparently the new singer is going to be announced today at 5:00PM finnish time.

That is seriously super-whack, it sounds like a fucking Euro-vision song contest ballad. How the hell did this stuff EVER get put in the same boat as metal?

Probablly because Gina G was in eurovision when they started, they gained popularity and then people started ripping them off.

I dont see how that explains how they are genereally discussed as being in any way related to heavy metal

Because metal is quite a broad genre, "heavy" is rather relative. If Helloween, Symphony X, Blind Guardian and the like are gladly excepted as metal then I dont see why Nightwish shouldn't be just because they have more of a symphonic element too them than others.
Not that it matters much.

Using strings and synths and stuff doesnt mean theyre symphonic. It just means they either downloaded some strings things off the net or paid some people to play violins over their music. Its not a 'symphonic' use of strings, its a 'pop' use of strings, like in take that songs or whatever. Manowar, Emperor (and Rhapsody ) use strings, but generally in a slightly less cynical pop fashion.

Darkweasel wrote:How ironic. Nightwish were one of the first female led vocal bands to be taken seriously and Within Temptation were seen by many as copyists. Now, after that short clip, it's seems evident that Nightwish are depserate to copy Within Tempation.
Well, both bands formed in 96, and released debuts in 97, so cant say either was copying the other really. However, the debut WT album, is miles superior to anything NW has done in my opinion. The vocals of Sharon Den Adel on that first WT album are perfect, not the OTT operatic style NW use, but powerful, expressive and smooth, and they compliment the death metal vocals on there completely.
Maybe both bands were copying Lacuna Coil who were foemed in 94 (although under another name).
