Re: Britishness
I quite often feel frustrated / embarrased / apologetic for being british. This is usually down to the fact that we as a nation, not only plundered and defiled half the undeveloped world for its natural resorces in the fairly recent past, but we then went and completely made ourselves look ridiculous by becoming the lapdog of a superpower which is made up of the decendents of savage immigrants and ethnic cleansers, thus becoming doubley hated throughout a great part of the world.
I feel no affiliation at all to my britishness or my englishness. I am not at all patritoic.
As an englishman, i actually have a negative stereotypical images of certain englishmen, either the snobby etonian toff who is disconnected from the real world by his elevated and priviliged social status, and then also the thuggish, yob-like racist football hooligan with the st georges cross and / or bulldog tattoos who swears that england is the worlds superior country and brings it into disrepute with an alarmingly regular frequency. The former often having a certain charm on the international stage, and the latter the total opposite.
Britain certainly isnt the only nation to have defiled the developing world, as france, the netherlands, spain and portugal are also among those who are also guiltyof this, but we seem to be the ones who are reviled for it.
Britain is now, i fear, becoming little more than either a hated nation or a complete laughing stock.

To be fair to be Britain, though, I think you need to have lived in other countries for a decent length of time before making those kinds of complaint with it. I'm pretty sure you'll find toffs and football hooligans in pretty much any developed country [are English football hooligans even as bad as their Italian counterparts?] and being ridiculed by Jacques Chirac et al for being the 'lapdog' of the USA is a bit rich seeing as France is in no position to provide a viable alternative to anything the USA does in the global arena.

Re: Britishness
The rules of being British abroad....
1. If they can't understand you, speak louder and slowwwer.
2. Disobey every culture as they should be embracing yours.
Works every time.
If you want a proper answer.... I'll do your fucking homework if you wash my car.
Now that's a British attitude. UP THE IRONS!

Aye, everyone speaks English anyway. Even the French. They just hide it because they're stuck up.

Incidentally, who wants Andy Murray, as the foremost representative of 'British Tennis', to do well at Wimbledon?

Re: Britishness
I hate how full of themselves people get about the BNP. Just because you don't agree with them doesn't make them 'dangerous'. The fact that such a bias is taught in schools and uni is sickening. You don't have to agree with them, but you do have to respect their right to an opinion without passing them off as idiots.
/rant
And no, I'm not a BNP supporter.
And for fucks sake, stop exporting Britishness as this upper-class-english thing in the media, it just pisses off the rest of the country and gives us an extremely unfair image in the world.

They have an opinion, and i've listened to it, and read up on it in detail.
My findings? They're complete and utter idiots.

I see your point, hyping them up with the scare tactics does add credibility to their claims to be champions of free speech.

Re: Britishness
It's more to do with a place of education teaching a bias. That's what pisses me off - it's undemocratic. Imagine if they were teaching that the conservatives were bad as part of the national syllabus? That's called totalitarianism.
Education should be about facts, not pushing the views of the elite onto the general population.

Yeah, I can picture it now
"Right kids, today we're going to talk about the viewpoint that darkies should fuck off back home where they came from"
They try and mask it, but the leaders of their party are nothing more than common racists.
