Ha ha, Jon, why don't you cover a death metal song with Firestorm!!

I'd chose anything by At the Gates. Not death strictly speaking, but you know, suck my big black cock.

True, they got much better on the later albums (as did everything, really).

Even the gulf between SBG and Leprosy is massive!

you must remember that they probably had incredibly limited time to record the album, and Chuck did record both guitar tracks, the bass and all the solos, so lets give him some credit at least!! ;)

the solos aren't actually very shit, it's just the tone is really harsh and they haven't been produced/ mixed very well by the sounds of it :)

he still plays basically the same solos on human too :P it's the Paul Masvidal solos which make me actually shit myself

Y'know, as a non musician, it really fucks me off all this technical bollox!!

I would sooner listen to a solo that sounds right, has real feel and passion, and enhances the song to your average listener. I dont want to listen to a solo and think "oh yeah, well that is technically super fantastically brilliant, but it didnt sound right". Case in point : Kirk Hammett. On Kill em all, the solos were fluent and balanced and perfect, then 4 albums later, he plays solos that may give satriani and vai a reason to tickle his nuts and toss him off, but i think they are shit to listen to in comparison! Bands like Forbidden i think manage both, and all power to them, same with the mighty Gary Moore. I hate the string plucking metal equivalent to Mariah Carey (20 notes where only 2 were required). Okay, so you can play something really really really hard, dont mean its gonna sound good

And by the way, Leprosy was second rate, the later death stuff was to self indulgent, and only the real mantas / death stuff (SBG and earlier) is tr00. Bah!

BAIL!

Death turned into the best metal band ever when they released Human. Mantas was shit, a few kids trying to be 'evil' by putting loads of crappy face paint and fake blood on and posing.

:? Let's face it, a lot of the later Death stuff is fucking boring. The demos are SAVAGE.

I like all eras of Death. I am a non-musician and I think the later stuff rule. I think SBG is awesome but the solos are nothing on the later stuff where they were integral parts of the songs. Symbolic is one of the best Metal albums I've heard. I just love Death! RIP Chuck...

i ike early death, but its not my favest really, in fact i wouldn't put death in any of my top ten lists probably, tho i do like leprosy. their later stiuff bored me a bit...a bit too needlesly prog for the sake of it...i hat that kinda prog where its sounds far too thought out.
