Even though ME aren't UK they should be on it because they're too good to leave off.

But the truth is that one bigger gig is harder, think about it, finding 300 thrashers in one area (or who are willing to travel there) who are all aware of the UK scene and willing to come and support it is infinately harder than finding 70-100 or so in each of 3 different areas around the country.

I think you need to remember that although the UK Thrash scene looks immense to us and is indeed hugely talented, to your average metaller in the street its nothing, hell half of them wont even have heard of Xentrix.

That is a good point but we also need to discuss the price, do we even need 300 punters or would 200 do it?

Metal Iain is right, we all obviously think Thrash is great but at the end of the day if you've not got a gay fringe and several breakdowns per song, the masses aren't interested. Play it safe to begin with, maybe do one or two gigs at smallish venues and see if people are interested. If they're sell out events - maybe you'd be a bit more inclined to do a tour or a few more gigs at bigger venues? No point spending shit loads of money on something that could potentially be a massive flop.

Oh definately, I wasn't even thinking in terms of hundreds. There are some great venues in Camden where if you get 50-70 people it looks packed. That's what you want, closeness, the crowd right in your face.

I definately think you've got to just take each thing as it comes without getting too caught up in grand ideas. In saying that, however, there are plenty of metal heads knocking about in London who would be interested.

I reckon one gig would do it, a tour is potentially asking for trouble. Personally speaking, I think the Underworld would be the best place to go - everyone knows where it is and it is of a decent enough size without being OTT. I know metallers who practically LIVE in that place, you'd be guaranteed to get a reasonable enough crowd.

You don't have to hire the whole thing out, I believe that you can hire out the main room and side bar (without the main bar upstairs) for a significantly reduced price. There aren't a lot of other options - the Verge in Kentish Town used to be the underground venue of choice but is now some sort of ponce bar. Other possibilities at this level for London venues:

Purple Turtle - also in Camden, fairly decent 'smaller' alternative to the Underworld, more gigs seem to take place there now.
Electrowerkz - based in Angel, foul, more of a black metal venue.
Dublin Castle - Camden based. Bit of an indie pit but fairly good.
Kings Head - popular Fulham venue, used to (still is?) used for Total Rock gigs. Not my favourite.
Metro - on Oxford Street. Not bad, hard to load/unload vehicles due to Central London location.

I'd go Purple Turtle or Underworld. Well-known in metal circles, relatively easily accessible places.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting the punters in - just advertise like feck, promote it, flyer it at all appropriate gigs and metal nights (Marlborough Head, London Stone e.t.c.). It is MORE than possible to make this a success.

I think if we are looking to make money to cover the cost of cd production it has to be a one off gig. I dont think we would be able to promote more than one gig enough to make a profit from them. A gig at the underworld would be a slightly risky affair but at least everyone knows where it is.
The few thrash gigs ive been involved in putting on have not covered the cost of putting them on even with SERIOUS flyering and postering. I think we would really need the draw of a headline band people have heard of to ensure enough people come to make it worthwhile. Maybe we should think about putting an advert in terrorzer too. I know Bestial Bill might be able to help us out on the promotion side with his unutterable connections of doom, and surely some people who post here know someone who knows someone who can help?

three of four dates, you would need bands from that area to headline the tour so different bands would be a good idea, then more bands could be involved. It would have to be a pub tour to keep costs down. Good luck and if Metal team can help in anyway with promotion then we can help.
