Hey fair play to you lads, it worked wonders for us! However, we didn't have much of an 'advance' to pay back. How are Earache hoping to recoup on this one? Is the thinking that people will still buy it or are they planning on tapping more heavily into your other revenue streams? Or is that secret insider business?! You're right though, this kind of thing for better or worse is definitely the future.

I'd imagine they are going to go the route of limited editions and freebies, or at least i hope so.

As Phily says "This is the future" . Well it's been the past 5 years really but I'm really happy to see Gama Bomb and Earache trying something new and seeing if it works. I hope they are sharing the risk equally and I hope the metal community will support them.
My only problem is that I'm old and I like to buy things and I don't like waiting until January to get the physical thing in my hands

Earache see it fit to display parts of Gama bombs record contract for all to see on thier blog for some unpolite reason. Check back to about 6 months ago when this idea sprung up.
Legal downloads are killing music piracy. Somebody think of the children!

Re: GAMA BOMB TO GIVE NEW ALBUM AWAY FOR FREE - NOV 5TH
It is indeed really nice that you're giving your album away, great to try new things and all that, and indeed legal downloads are much better than pirate downloads (obviously), but I do have mixed feelings on this issue somewhat. It's just a personal thing though really, but I just think it cheapens/devalues the experience of getting and enjoying a new album somewhat - like when I downloaded In Rainbows by Radiohead, it didn't feel like I'd just got a new album, just like, 'oh, there's another download for my computer,' and as a result I didn't feel like listening to it very much. I love going out and spending money on a lovely package that I really want, and then getting my money's worth of joy out of it. I'm really looking forward to the new Gama Bomb album, but I'm not going to feel satisfied until I have my hands on the real life delicious package with lovely real life artwork. It's one thing being able to download a picture onto your computer, but nothing beats having the wonderful package in your face.
Although I can see that this sort of thing is perhaps indeed the future, it just upsets me a little bit. I'm just not sure if I like the way the future is shaping out at the moment, in many things of the world, not just in music. There's too much reliance on the internet, christ almighty! It's a bit terrifying.

I think this is wonderful, and the only downside is having to wait a bit longer for a hard-copy!
