Right it's pay-day on friday and I'm going to splash the cash on some thrash and other metal. Can people give me some recommendations on starter albums for bands I want to finally check out please?
Celtic Frost
Exciter
Mercyful Fate
King Diamond
D.R.I
and I may add more when I can think straight.
Also can anyone in the London area recommend some decent record shops?
Cheers

ABIGAIL.
I foolishly only got this recently (I should have been listening for years!) and its just an amazing album. On first listen it sounds like bog standard 80s metal....
However, if you turn out the lights and listen to it on headphones with a candle so you can read the lyrics it will send chills up your spine!!!! Its a concept album based on a ghost story Diamond made up and its brilliant. JUST GET IT! Aaargh!
Oh yeah forgot to add, DBTO is a good Fate album but Melissa is the best, each track is a classic, such good riffs and original songwriting. You can pick up Melissa and The Beginning by Fate as part of a double pack thing. Killer stuff!

DRI - deal with it. Their best album - don't let anyone tell you any different!
Good London record shops:
Reckless records: Berwick street leicester square
Notting hill music exchange
Camden Music exchange
All ages records: Camden (More punk stuff, but you might be able to get some DRI albums here)

Do I see a theme here? Clearly any thrash album with a girls name is killer. Maybe it's anything girly, I mean, the Cowboys From Hell CD is pink...
Ed: Is the remastered version of MF's Melissa worth getting, or should I stick with the original?
I'm going to
Tear your fuckin' eyes out,
Rip your fuckin' flesh off,
Beat you 'till you're just a fucking lifeless carcass,
Fuck you and your progress,
Watch me fucking regress,
You were made to take the fall,
Now you're nothing!!

Mercyful Fate - Dont Break The Oath, Melissa and 9
D.R.I - Dealing With It and Violent Pacification
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion
You should try Resurrection Records in Camden, tons of killer stuff and loads of it on vinyl

Re: The Recommendations Thread
Celtic Frost - their Morbid Tales EP and To Mega Therion LP.
Exciter - their first couple of LPs are fairly savage. Violence & Force is my pick of the two.
Mercyful Fate - their Melissa LP or Don't Break The Oath LP, the latter being my personal favourite. Gypsy anyone?
King Diamond - their/his first four LPs are awesome. You can usually picked up 'Them' and 'Conspiracy' in Roadrunners "Two From The Crypt" series.
D.R.I - their Dealing With It LP and 4 Of A Kind LP.

Walk past the actual market, staying on the side of the high street where the tube is.
Keep walking, past a few shops but not too far along (I think there's a few roads to cross), and keep looking in every shop for steps going down. Ressurection is underneath another shop (I think it might be a shoe shop or something). You will be able to spot it because there are metal posters lining the stairs.
It's not actually all that amazing, prices are pretty standard, selection is alright but quite predictable... good place for gig tickets and stuff though.
