 Fair enough, I was just making general ignorant statements about nothing in particular. Carry on.

It's a job not a bloody taxi! The naivity of some people astounds me

That is naive, it isn't hard to get a job anywhere! Somebody is always leaving a job somewhere....

It's hard to get a job that you're happy with, but hey, who the fuck is actually happy at work? :P:P

well sure they could get jobs flipping burgers, but is that going to support their families? Some of these people may be a few years from retirement and will have no prospects of finding a similar paid job at all. Others will have to start their career at the bottom of the ladder.

This strike wont help the postal workers. Royal Mail has to modernise to compete because its been subjected to the free market (with a rope tied round its neck) but i dont blame them for trying to protect their wages and jobs.

It's not justified because I have stuff on order from Play.com.

I just got home from doing my job as a postie today. There were 6 of us who worked, and only 2 of us who went out and delivered, we were given the option as RM felt those who delivered may have been putting themselves in a position where they may be open to intimidation. As for the pickets, i got there at 5.30 and was booed by "red" Fred, a 62 year old militant, who was the sole meber of the picket, and even he was sat booing from his car cuz it was raining

The postal workers are facing pay cuts and massive job losses

yes, i knew the pay before i acepted the job, and trust me, after working 20 years in the butchery industry as a fully skilled tradesman, the pay as a postie is not bad especially as it is unskilled work.

as for the pay cut, there is no mention of a cut, just a below inflation increase, there is a difference (albeit subtle). the union has stated that they demand that we have our pay increased to the national average, this would mean us getting a rise of 27%. that would be totally unsustainable, and as a marker, we already get paid 14% more on average than the workers in the other companies moving into this marketplace, and we have a good pension and bonuses, they dont. There are other civil servants who get paid below average wage, and are skilled, and have trained for years to do the job they do, such as nurses, and in my opinion, they are more deserving of a rise than we are.

The amount of job losses that may or may not happen because of increased automation, is already under review and has been for all the time that i have worked there, and RM have said that there will be no need for anything other than voluntary redundancies if the automation happens soon. However, were we to lose more big contracts and relinquish more market share, then the likelyhood of compulsary redundencies is increased. If you go into sainsburys, or mcdonalds or wetherspoons etc, they dont pay their staff for an 8 hour shift every day when they only actually do 6 do they?
The union would be better advised in my opinion, in putting pressure on the regulator (government) to review the way in which the new companies are obtaining a foothold in the marketplace, and making it a level playing field. They have set a target for them to take 20% of the total business from RM (the level set by the regulator), this should include the good, the bad and the ugly parts, not just syphoning off the lucrative top 20% and leving us the rest, then taking the piss by making us deliver it still for nothing!!!!!!!

I can strike from being unemployed if you'd like. I can totally refuse to sit on my ass, drinking my parents beer and claiming benefits. It'd be a sacrifice but I'd be willing to try it for my postal workin' brothers.

I think Craigicide should be interviewed about the matter by the Beeb.
