I go to bed and wake up with a completely blocked left ear. No pain, just no fucking hearing either. My GP surgery doesn't do syringing unless you've done the "warm olive oil" treatment for a week, and neither will the walk-in NHS clinic on my way to work.
So I now have no hearing in my left ear. At all.

Re: AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
Shit, that really sucks. Funnily enough, I woke up yesterday with some ear pains, I'm going to the doctors in half an hour. Fucking LONG.
Get well soon!

Syringe it yourself? Just obviously don't burst your eardrum.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Re: AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
Is it an ear infection or are you just a manky bastard who doesn't clean his ears? My old flatmate had a weird condition and he seemed to produce Father Jack-like quantities of ear wax. What was worse is the prick just left used cotton buds lying around the bathroom rather than binning them. Fucking rank.
Ear infections can be nasty shit. I once had infections in both ears and both my ear drums burst in the space of a week. I had AIDS at the time but that was some nasty shit right there.

Re: AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
Well I've just been to the doctors, been told it's an infection and given antibiotics. I've also been told to do the olive oil trick to get the wax out.
Best bit is that I've got the rest of the day off - left work at 10:30 to get to the doctors for 11:20 (I live in Witham, work in Colchester, ronund trip between home and work takes about an hour door to door) and was kept waiting for an hour because of some emergency. Finally got out of the doctors at 12:45, called work and they said to have the afternoon off because I wouldn't be back until 2 and I finish at 4:30. Result - obviously minus the ear infection

You'd have been able to tell it was an ear infection if you were losing your balance. I'd be surprised if you can work whilst you have it.

Re: AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
All I can say is thank fuck for olive oil (and no, I don't mean the Popeye character ) - after an hour or so pouring the stuff into my ear, I can actually hear perfectly again. Some of it may be down to the antibiotics getting the swelling down but I'm not that bothered - at least I can hear

It works when it's plugged in, charging away and what not, but as soon as you take the cable out it likes "No batteries! Charge me!", despite the fact it's been on charge forever.

Ah, looks like the battery's shot then. I do have the original battery left over from when I cannibalised two Zens to make a good one if you want it. You'd have to dismantle it yourself and put it back together, though the battery is actually taped (or glued, can't remember) to the back casing so it's just switching the back over - I switched them over when I rebuilt it because the new one didn't have any dents on it, the old one has quite a few
Let me know if you want me to post it, I can find a Zen teardown guide on the net somewhere - it's pretty simple though. Pop a flathead screwdriver underneath the lip of the on-hold switch and lever the top panel off, and put something thin but pretty solid into the reset hole and use that to lever the bottom panel off. From there it's two tiny Philips crosshead screws to undo and lever the two halves of the player apart with a flathead along the sides (it's held by two metal spring-clips)
Or if you don't feel like taking it apart, I'll do it as long as you pay the cash for me to post it back
