I think the criticism was valid, although not necessarily insulting. Family Guy DOES randomly pull jokes out of a hat, but that doesn't mean it's not funny. Besides, the core of the episode was actually about keeping Family Guy ON the air.

I've not seen Season 10, episodes 7 through 10 due to lack of internet at home (soon to be remedied). South Park is EASILY the best animated series of all time; it's more consistant than The Simpsons, it's VERY clever, and is relevant to current events. What's more it's getting better and better which is the exact opposite of what happened to The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, and already, American Dad.

I loved the episodes about Family Guy because, let's face it, Family Guy is fucking shit. I still kind of like Season 3 but since when did 'random' become the basis for humour?

Yeh Family Guy was great at first but they never do anything new, same jokes every time, and the 'jokes' arent really that, theyre just random words put together, gets old quite quickly...

Also, family guy is an extreme simpsons rip off. The simularities are ridiculous.

I find Family Guy very funny, but I still found it great how South Park suggests that the writing team is a group of manatees selecting "idea balls" at random!

Oh come off it, if you are so easily offended why were you watching South Park in the first place?

i havn't seen many of the new ones, but from what I saw the old ones are much better. how can you argur with episodes like volcano, starvin marvin, sexual harrasment panda, the brown noise, trapper keeper, mecha streisand and cartmans mum is a dirty slut....you really can't beat them.

Typical idiot. I'm sorry, I just can't stand people who don't get South Park. Please leave or commit harikiri on yourself.

yes. very witty. when did I say I didn't 'get' south park? I'm just saying I prefer the older ones. Then again after series 5 or so I havn't seen many, because channel 4 havn't brought a new series for about 5 years.

Exactly, and if you watch the episode carefully, you'll realise that Trey Parker offers up another side to the argument when one of the characters says that they find Family Guy entertaining and simply fun to watch, because they like that style of visual gag after visual gag.

I totally disagree that there are no 'jokes' in Family Guy, there are actually some very well observed parodies of other programmes in it (Seinfeld for example, which also rules!). It's certainly not subtle, but that's the whole point, it sets out purely (and fairly purile-ly) to be funny, and in my opinion it succeeds. It's using cartoon as medium that allows for crazy flights of fancy, many of the events that play out could not be achieved if it were a sitcom for example, and therefore it could be argued that's it's using animation in a more original way than others. Almost a caricature of a cartoon, if that makes any sense.

I understand that the format is similar to the Simpsons, but the content really isn't that similar. I think they just pushed the boundaries of how zany you could get with that 'family' type of cartoon/sitcom. As a result I think that the Simpsons went in a similar direction, a slightly more surreal vibe, and was less good for it. The Simpsons was great because it was well-observed and somewhat realistic; you could identify with the characters. I think you can less now, becuase they are less 'real'.

But to make my point clear, I did actually find the 'Family Guy' episode of South Park fucking funny, I just don't agree with the central point.

When I first saw the South Park episode that criticised Family Guy, I went out in a blind rage, destroying all of the Family Guy merchandise that I could find, then I collapsed in a toilet cubicle, crying.

It wasn't even that offensive. The end arguement of the entire episode was "Paedophiles are fucked up, they dont deserve any freedom", which is entirely correct IMO. They deal with the issues in a comical way, as unfunny as the issues may be, because it makes it easier to deal with an extremely difficult topic when you're laughing at it. They did the exact same thing when they had Cartman and Osama spoof a Bugs Bunny/Elmer Fudd bit.

I personally found the Super Adventure Club episode FAR more uncomfortable, and more than a little difficult to watch.

South Park is one of the best "adult" cartoon series' ever, has anyone seen the 9/11 conspiracy one from series 10 (i think), fucking excellent, Trey and Matt are genius!!!!

I think the Family Guy episode was done simply because they take the piss out of everything, why not FG aswell? I have no bad words to say about Family Guy though, amazing show, it parodies pretty much everything ever, so it's gotta be good!!!
