My day of fun with Bruce Dickinson

Postby jonny_boy34 on Sun May 18, 2008 11:48 am

Yes indeed! My old friend who is an avid Iron Maiden forum/fan club member won a competition to go with a guest on Ed Force One (the ridiculous plane that Maiden have been flying around with on the recent tour) with Bruce to go to Cannes for the day, for the screening of his new film, Chemical Wedding. It was a humorous experience indeed. Unfortunately we didn't really get to speak to Bruce (apart from a couple of 'hello's) as he was either flying the plane or talking to the press, or his family (we were sitting two rows behind his kids on the plane), but nevermind. The film was ridiculous. It seems a bit unfair to say it was shit, as they obviously put a lot of effort into it, and it was entertaining... but very twisted and hilarious, sometimes intentionally but sometimes not I think. Anyway, the fact that the singer of Iron Maiden flew a plane to go and see a film that he made is impressive enough I suppose.

So all in all it was quite hilarious but I don't have many interesting stories to tell about it as it was such a quick trip. But great fun. In the words of Dave Gorman, here I am if you don't believe me: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=3 ... =508417515

Cheersm.

Cool. My mate's band has played with Brucey's son's band, I can't remember what they're called though.

I hate you Jon.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

This leads me on to tell you about the ridiculous experience I had today! Good lord, this weekend has been unbelievable. I was doing the sound at Bar Monsta today, the 2nd day of a 2 day fest called 'Bullet Fest'. I was talking to the promoter at the beginning of the day, and he suddenly mentioned that bloody Bruce Dickinson's son was playing tonight! I went mad and excitedly told him that I was sitting behind him yesterday on his dad's plane and I couldn't believe the coincidence. Anyway, Austin arrive a few minutes after that, saw me wearing my Chemical Wedding t-shirt I got from the plane and pointed it out and said 'lovely boys!' or something along those lines, so I went over and started chatting to him and we couldn't believe the madness. I definitely couldn't believe the madness, and bloody hell! He's a very nice chap indeed, his band were really good too - musically not quite what i'd usually listen to, but they played really well, and Austin really does have the energy of his dad! Really good voice too. I gave him my card at the end after a nice chat and said "If you ever need a sound engineer..." It was ridiculous, it felt like I was asking someone out, that nervous but excited feeling of madness... I couldn't believe it.

What a thoroughly ridiculous weekend!

Oh and the Chemical Wedding film's about a man who becomes the reincarnation of Aleister Crowley or something - it's very confusing and very sick. Strangely enjoyable though.

Yeah, my mate's band also played that same festival on the first day, sadly there was only about 3 people watching them because they were on at about 4:45. Mutant were on the original line-up for that festival too you know, but they pulled out long ago. Also, were Amenti still headlining it?
