man,i cant get enough of this riffing remarkableness.
been blastin it in my room all afternoon.
even 4 tracks is more than enough coz each one such a musical journey in itself.the tracks are all 4-5mins of wickedness.its like each track is 3 songs in itself.so many twists and turns.
the riffing is so fitting to each tunes subject matter.theres some very video gamey sounding parts in there too.in other parts, the crunching of bass and chugging of guitars go well and form classy chugging/shredding moments of excellence.
also the clanking sound in The Rauncher sets a visual picture for the post apoc/biker/machinery setting.(well thats what it made me think of anyway ie:heavy machinery, cyborgs etc)
this cd is gonna be on repeat on the ghetto blaster in the stockroom at work tomorrow me thinks.
top notch.
sooo modern.
Mutant are just as heavy as Gama Bomb and Municipal Waste in the full on thrash department.
MW:party crossover thrash
GB:modern retro dude thrash
Mutant:future speed thrash

all such heavily awesome, technical and at the same time FUN bands to go and see/listen to.

hahahaha i think me steve and plodman listened to this EP in the "THRASHMOBILE" (aka peugeot 106 :D) like atleast 40 hahaha.

I meen on friday night we had this blasting on repeat from 1-2 and then when plodman convinced us to leave chewin druids house at 5 to go sleep in the bloody Thrashmobile it was played atleast for another half hour hahaha.

Oh and who can forget the "SCRAP BRAIN ZONE" chants every 5 second for the whole weekend hahahha, except the the word "scrap" was usually changed for something else like "THRASH BRAIN ZONE" or "HAT BRAIN ZONE" ---rediculus

I actually have a recording of us trying to remeber the lyrics to THUMP and Psycho surgery at 2am in the travel lodge :D Il find it and youtube it ;)

after hearing Laserdrome so much lately,i just had to watch the Running Man.i know the song isnt about that film but still,it made me want to watch people run for thier lives for entertainment in the future etc.

also after hearing the Rauncher a lot,i thought id watch the Violence Jack and Fist of the north star animes too.bikes, violence, gangs, future etc.

Mutants lyrics really are great themes/concepts for bad ass sci-fi movies.

I can't believe I've never seen The Running Man - I must redress this very soon. Rik, you should make a top 10 of the best 80s/early 90s distopian future films, I really want to see some more. I just watched Total Recall for the first time in a few years, and remembered what an awesomely enjoyable film it is. So sad that you don't really get films like that any more.

And to stay on topic, yes I agree the Mutant subject matter conjures up that sort of futuristic street gang vibe!

It makes me think of the biker gangs in Akira.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

Fucking hell. I can't stop listening to the EP, just so ... amazing.

Favourite track is The Rauncher, intro riff is brilliant, then going into that slow chugging verse riff, then fast again, Paul's bass-lines really do come through both on the track and on the whole EP. Then there's the Maiden-esque guitar duels and back to the intro riff.

Just fucking awesome. Definitely a defining release for Mutant, and hopefully the sign of things to come. Production sounds very crisp and modern but with that hint of old-school to it too.

If the next mutant record is as good as Laserdrome then I;ll get Tom's face tattoo'd on my scrotum.

For me, that's probably the only criticism - I don't actually think the bass comes through quite enough, unless you are really listening out for the bass lines particularly. You can still hear all the lovely joy, but personally I'd prefer for the bass to be a bit more prominent, maybe just because I'm a bassist, but there are so many lovely things Paul does that I don't think you can quite hear properly. But still, the tone of it and everything is great, and it generally still sounds amazing, so unbelievable joys for all.
