From my experience, no.
That's obviously not a scientific study there though.

For the record I never listen to any of the Fear Candy CDs except for the unsigned ones.

Re: All change at Terrorizer Magazine
I never listen to the fear candy CD's they always have the worst songs from the bands on them ---although i have listened to the unsigned ones.
I dont think its so bad that a fanzine should charge for an advert....but in my mind an advert (IE: print based) is going to always different to a song on a CD. I just dunno how they can expect the good unsinged bands, the bands that spend thier cash on tours, new albums and self promotion can be expected to pay that amount for something thier is a very very high chance that people wont listen to cause of the variaty in Terrorizer meens that by listening to that CD their will be aload of stuff you hate.
I know i basically contradict myself cause if everyone did listen to the CD it would be amazing advertising...but its not the same as a print based advert where a reader will absorb the advert if they meen to or not

Re: All change at Terrorizer Magazine
We did Fear Candy unsigned a year or so ago and it helped us no end for promotion etc. Ian got the ball rolling with an EP review and Live review and it was only then that other mags began to pick up the EP to review it etc. we then had a review in all the usual mags as well as plenty of other snippets across the board. However big or small, any press is good press.

That would be great. I'd totally act the part (Pringle sweater and glasses) and lick my lips whenever anyone mentioned children. Then you could get away with it by saying you were just having a laugh.

Out of interest, do you reckon the outcome would've been the same if you'd have done Fear Candy without knowing Ian, and without him reviewing your stuff? I suppose that's a hard question to answer, but I'm just wondering, while we can come up with all our theories on the matter, it's interesting to hear from people who've actually done it.

It would also help if your band are as good as Seregon are! Whereas it would be nice for my ego to think that I'd manage to drum up a lot of interest for Seregon by my writing alone, I reckon it is more dependent on how good a band are. Seregon are top bollock and therefore did very well out of FC.
