the place/people was mostly ok,and for the 6and half years i had been switching back and forth between sales on shifts and stockoom/delivery reciever(mon to fri).i could never settle in one role for too long.
last august dixons built little kiosk style mini stores in all b.a.a airport terminals(resulting in two stores per terminal 1main and 1mini)
since ours was built we put 5 staff down there permanently(me included).but the 2stores in general never recovered the overall staff level, resulting in more work to be split/pushed onto everyone else.so i went back to stockroom in january but with 1 colleague instead of two.
it takes bloody months to get new recruits due to security checks etc and when they do join half never stick it out.
its just one of those places running on empty even with people doing overtime on thier days off to get stuff done(not me though)
and it is rapidly deteriorating and becoming a dead end trap for whoever stays.
it was time to escape
also the summer/xmas incentives and rewards are crapper year on year.greedy fatcats at head office skimmng off the top.
highstreet staff had commision scrapped last year in place of quarterly bonuses depending if targets were reached.
our commision had been kept but restructured the other year(worse off)
time for a rest and a change........

Re: jobs
Sounds like my company, well not be honest mine is worse. We don't get sick pay, or bonuses or any kind of benefits minus a 10% discount at the Millies cookies. Working at an airport is shit.
Hard work, undervalued etc. I need a new job, well that and to hurry up and find out if i have gotten into uni for this September.

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Re: jobs
my job for the mo is to have reverse sleeping patterns,go to gigs without thinking of the day/s ahead, eat junkfood, play videogames, browse the forum and pretty much do whatever i feel like until i get skint, maybe in a few months look for something part time as i truly believe no1 should work 40+hours a week.oh yeah and do my part around the house(not so fun)
best job yet.
the spanish have got it sussed with siestas.
also a lot of brits are obsessed with work/status/being important/having the bigger better car/s and need to chill the fuck out once in a while to actually enjoy thier lives.and stop taking out loans like every damn advert on tv.
its nice to have 1or 2 luxuries, but not worth the stress/shortening your life to afford "wants not needs"
im happy enough just having my family around, going to gigs and playing videogames/watching dvds,so sod work for the moment
not gonna try and move out just coz its the thing to do.especially when me,my bros and parents all get along.
its seems pointless struggling on my own when theres no need.im not lazy, its just the house prices in the southeast are a fucking joke and its literally impossible to move out.(unless you earn£50,000 a year there may be a chance)and i dont wanna live off value food and have no furniture just so i can say i got my own place.
th only way to get a house is to get a bird pregnant,PRETEND you want nothing to do with it,and then when the free house and benefits are issued,MAKE UP with her and move in
that may sound irresponsible to some but i think its a great plan...

Re: jobs
It never fails to amaze me how difficult it is for royal mail to get half decent staff. Most new starters we have had in the 2 yrs ive been there have left or been sacked. Recently, we had a 20 year old who started, did his weeks training then did nearly 2 weeks on his own. He said he was enjoying the job and no problems etc, but we found out over easter what he had (allegedly) been doing when a farmer 10 miles away found 2 days worth of post (allegedly) dumped in a brook on his land
The police raided his house and his car etc and 9 days worth of mail was recovered which he had (allegedly) got no intention of delivering. Apparently the walking was too much for him
that is the most extreme case but since i started, only 2 other members of staff who started since me have stayed. it is such an easy job, and we dont even have to get up at silly o clock any more. We get full sick pay, pension, bonuses, regular overtime, have a reasonably strong union to support us, and our jobs are fairly secure. too many people are just fucking lazy!!!!!!!

half 5 weekdays 4.45 saturdays. Best place for jobs is to check the royal mail website, but i warn you they dont tend to employ students as they are moving towards all new jobs being 25 hour a week contracts (5 hours a day, 9-1) which aint gonna fit in with uni students. Thats on delivery anyway.

Re: jobs
Two things I have been reminded about while reading this thread, firstly this, as both basis of this video were pretty much covered int he main post:
And then this, from the bit about lipstick. If you can't be arsed to read the whole thing just scroll to the pictrue of the clown and read the first paragraph, possibly the best set of words ever!
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=fashion
I've done a lot of temp work in the past with a lot of people, and you stumble accross a fair few chavs that do it, because they can't seem to hold down a proper job that doesn't require at least 1 C grade GCSE, and can't get a job that does. I don't know if that's a nationwide thing, or just where I live. Anyway, I was working with one such chav (we were shifting boxes into or out of a lorry, I've spent many a summer's day doing that) who told me he'd had temp work for the royal mail, through the same temp agency we were both working for, and he'd done like half his round and then dumped loads in a drain. I can't believe they don't do full and stringent security checks for the royal mail! I mean, if they get their own temps in, interview them themselves and check them properly it's fair enough, but they pretty much just called the agency and said "Who do you have that can work tomorrow?" and then took what they were given.
I've only ever walked out of one job, another temp job putting up Marquees. I'm not the strongest bloke in the world, I'm about 5'7" and weigh about 9 and a half stone, I'm not really cut out for heavy lifting, and putting up marquees requires a lot of that. I was pretty much put on this job because I had a car, so I could take other people there. I was with 2 other temps that day. One of them was a pretty strong guy, had no problem with the job. The other was a big guy, a bit fat (not to put too fine a point on it), with asthema. He and I struggled with this work and the cunts we were working for were ripping the piss out of us rather than just helping. Then it started raining. A horrible day. About 12 o'clock we went "to Sainsbury's to get some lunch". I still wonder how long they waited before they realised we weren't coming back. Strangely enough, the other guy was the one that suggested we all go home, and I wasn't gonna argue with that.
I've actually been fired from one job. Last year, my placement job for uni. I was working for a company as a tech, building some rack mounted audio units, repairing audio gear, and installing gear in recording studios and soundsystems in pubs/clubs/etc. I got fired for my "attitude". I don't know if it's my attitude to work (which I thought was pretty good, I'm always one to just get on with it really, unless it's uni work, then I sit online and post on UK Thresh) or my attitude towards the boss (frankly I think mumbling "whatever" when someone's ripping your head off for pulling a cable through the wrong hole, which takes like 15 seconds to correct, is better than souting back and calling them a cunt). A couple of other things also went into this, I was often 5 or 10 minutes late, and I made a lot of mistakes. A lot of the mistakes I made were either because I had been given bad or not enough information by the boss, or because I'd not been trained. Most of the rest of them were due to the depression I was suffering at the time, partly because I thought the girl who just split up with me was going to kill herself (turned out she was just mental), and partly because I got treated like shit every day by my boss, and when I was at work I was either in a workshop with a wall seperating me and the other tech, or I was on a building site with 2 walls and no safety equipment (by the way, I learned from this, never touch rockwoll with your bare hands, and if you do wash right away. If you don't know it's the yellow stuff in your loft) And as for being late, I could never understand why my workmate, who I lived with and who gave me a most days, was never considered late.
The day after getting fired I had a job as a live sound engineer and I'm still doing that. It's pretty good, I'm freelance now so I have no real boss, and the earliest I've ever have to get up for it since working on my own is like 1, and that's only because I had to get to Leeds and the Cockpit have a 3 o'clock load in. Otherwise, I usually start work at 6. Even when I was working for a company, I never started before 10am.
Sorry, I wasn't expecting that to be so long...

that is something we all actually discuss at work, as we have a few temps when its busy or we are short staffed. We have to go through rigorous checks when we apply, and we have to sign the official secrets act too once we have been accepted, this is partly because being ROYAL mail, all post actually belongs to the queen from the time it leaves the posters hand to the point it arrives at its destination, and also because we handle material of a sensitive nature (doctors letters / bank statements / court papers / criminal records checks etc). Yet these temps just sign with an agency and away they go. There are a few limitations to their work tho, like they cannot handle any special deliveries, but that isnt a big part of the job anyway.

Re: jobs
Well I work for the NHS throught a temping agency and had to pass a CRB check and sign some forms before I could work in the clinic, so there is no difference really?
Thing that pisses me off working as a temp is bank holidays, I dont get paid for them unless I use my holiday which I acrue 3 1/4 hrs every working week. So really to get a full working week off I have to work 12 weeks.
Ive not had a day off since November
