Gary Moore. What a man!!!!!!

Postby Immortalicide on Sat Oct 06, 2007 1:03 pm

I love Gary Moore. He is a guitarist of such incredible talent. He has been around for years and has played every style of music from prog rock to white blues, taking in trad irish metal fusion and pseudo-flamenco-rock too. In addition, he was in thin lizzy, and even was the inspiration behind the awesome "scarface" by lawnmower deth. What a guy!!!!! Anyone else a fan????

I too like what I've heard of him.

Wishing Well was on some metal decade compilation, very good, although all his song names sound like nursery rhymes.

He's a guitarist I've always dodged because he's one of the first names (along with Rory Gallacher et al) to come to the mouths of Les Paul-totting arseholes who go on about how shredders are all soulless and should use their 'ear' to play.

Still, I need to check some of his stuff out.

He plays with soul, but he can play devilishly fast too, maybe not quite a "shredder" but he can be very contempory in his playing sometimes.

Seen him loads of times back in the 80's, from Donington to Blackburn (where he was a bit of a wanker, to be honest). Great guitarist, though.

Did he have terrible acne as a teenager or did he just lose a fight with a combine harvester?

Most shredders ARE soulless, and have no idea how to play/write decent solos.

Yngwie Malmsteen, for example.
