Yeah, i was just making the point that basically, combo personifies what happened to the skinhead movement.

Going back to politics, the one thing I did take away from it (other than the role of the Falklands war) was how the skinhead culture was ruined by ignorant racists who just latched onto it and sucked all the fun out of it. It's portrayed pretty well in the character of Combo. I hated him by the end of it.

I think it's a great film. It's not been released over here yet but it's available on the internet if you search about a bit.
And you're right - originally skinheads weren't racist at all. It was the NF dickweeds and their ilk that started to turn things that way.

Here's an old thread. I finally watched This Is England just now, and fuck me, what a film. Good crikey. Shitting hell. That was a real fucking film. I can't believe I went to see Spiderman 3 instead of going to see this at the cinema.

Funny that you brought this thread back up, today I bought a Shane Meadows box set which has four of his films on it, including This is England.

Bit of trivia - 'Dead Man's Shoes', Shane Meadow's 4th film was filmed in Heretic's home town, Matlock.

What other films has Shane Meadows directed? If any of his other films are anywhere near as good as This Is England, he is a great man.

Apparent Dead Man's Shoes is great. Another one which you're apparently meant to watch relatively uninformed about its contents. I haven't seen it yet, however, so that might be wrong.

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

Is Dead Man's Shoes the one where some dude has to get revenge and there's like a ghost of his brother and stuff??

If so, that's pretty a fucked up film to watch!
