Evile are slowing making the progression from out and out old school thrash metal band into more of an arena band (a little bit like Metallica did). I predicted this would happen and I certainly don't begrudge them doing it, since they're pretty fucking good at it. However, for me, nothing beats the early stuff when it comes to the live setting. I remember I saw Evile 4 or 5 times in a short period of time around when Enter the Grave first hit the shelves, all in pretty pokey venues, and the shows back then were absolutely electric.

To be honest, if you wanna make that jump from Underworld headline shows to arena shows, you've gotta fill out your sound a bit. Not many bands really do 2 hour plus sets of full on thrash metal in massive venues. Its like when Metallica made the black album. That album was all part of the transition to the mega massive headline shows. You can't just play Kill Em All material to 80,000 people, you need to break it up. That's what I think, anyway.

Evile are really emulating Metallica, it seems. Even down to the tragic similarities with losing a bassist (plus I do believe Ol has some rather outspoken views on the whole downloading business, let's hope we don't get another napster fiasco!). They may not be the same band they were on Enter the Grave, but they're still a bloody good band. Its a fair few years since I've been blown away by them live, though.

To summarise, Evile = Metallica mk2, but I'm happy with that. That's sort of meant to be a compliment. Look forward to the album.

No need, it's a pretty honest analogy.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

Unfortunately the main difference is that Metallica had a charismatic vocalist who sung interesting vocal patterns...

The intro to the album sounds great, albeit heavily Blackened influenced. There are some interesting sounding fast parts too, but in the main I'd say that the riffs are far from compelling.

It's more streamlined and far more melodic than infected Nations, which is both good and bad - IN was a colossal achievement for them, since it was utterly awesome, so going back to a more straightfoward style could backfire. That said, I've heard the full thing and it's a fucking great album - that's it. A great album, worth your pennies for sure.

Agreed. I also predicted the same thing years ago.

New Evile = Boring, to be quite honest. Disappointed.

I really wanted Evile to sound like Meat Loaf on this album, and I'm very disappointed that they don't.

Just thought I'd chime in now the album's out. I think it's a lot better than Infected Nations (which I wasn't keen on at all). Even the vocals have improved a bit. As to the Metallica comparisons, I have to agree - there are parts of various songs that are very reminiscent of songs like "Blackened" and especially "Dyers Eve". A much better album than I had expected though. One that I think I'll keep coming back to.

Knew the album was gonna be good, didn't expect it to be just as strong as it is. Every track's a corker.
