hello from the video shop internet cafe everyone(my modem adaptor is bolloxed at home and i gotta get a new one when i can be arsed,hence the delayed posts)
anyway enough boring you all.let talk about APOCALYPTIC RAGE!!!!!!
where to start?so many great people in bands,off this forum(good to meet you thrashduck)and from the scene in general.
thanks to Jamie for a great event
(the extra £2 on the door was justified in the end
)
i got there early just im time for painkiller,this is the third time ive caught them supporting and they are always a great band to get things going.hallowed point and radical onslaught continued the vibe.
doctor death in my opinion were where thing really started to feel enjoyable and they are the masters of effortless banter/comedy ie:playing boom shake the room halfway through a song/and mr.Kushners amazingly executed cameo.i loved the outfit and office dancing.top class!doctor death started off with a little minor snags but after some adjustments they really ended up on a roll and a triumphant finish.hats off/respect to Steve for playing with a busted foot(and thanks for the kiss on the cheek when i said my goodbyes
)
Deceptor blew me away,i caught part of thier set way back in bar monsta at the enforcer show.they are so tight and had some class material and i realised it had been so long/way overdue to see them again.they gotta play more frequently.i thought on the myspace songs they sounded like a thrash/blackmetal hybrid.but to hear them live my perCEPTions of them were instantly changed and im gonna make sure i catch them as much as i can.deceptor decieved me
and James isnt just a ukthrash inventor he is a mean drummer too.
up until Damnas it was a bit of a shame as far as crowd movement was concerned ie:there was a little headbanging/nodding but also during all the bands before Damnas there was "a semi circle of doom"(as Tom of Mutant would call it
)basically a sizable empty space at the front of the stage.it soon changed when Carl(my mate with the mohican and beard etc)piggybacked Fred and made a mini tsunami,which then signalled that there was some Raging to be done.Also well done to Donny for using theat space and jumping down from the stage to get stuck in and encourage more friendly thrash playfightin'.Damnas new material is phenominally structured with such a unique style of lyrics(like a rapping/m.c.ing feel)and some catchy,heavy riffing.there is such a street edge to the thrash of Damnas its like theyve invented a new genre/style of metal.
h.o.d got me out of my sitting down and resting place(to catch a breather) and down to the crowd the minute they blasted out "transformers".and they had thier own little entouRAGE-RS.its great to catch bands who have travelled from afar including amok who i listened to whilst upstairs inflating hammers.and i enjoyed what i heard.
then time for the final three:Nebukadnezza started up some more crowd movement and some real antics and band/crowd connections were made with the aid of witty comments from Donny,some marshmallows and some silly string.there was true carnage beginning to show on the floor of the venue with drink,various crushed e.ps,marshmallows and bits of plastic everywhere.a real party mess.i even remember Carl mopping up at one piont during a set as it was such a mess by the front.i liked the song by Nebukadnezza called "your mum".and donny with a marshmallow island on his head for a song was hilarious.
next up Mutant:shame about it being Pauls last outing with the guys(but look on the bright side,at least hes not leaving Deceptor)
Mutant are always amazing,i can only say it so many times but will keep saying it because it still rings true.they must battle on as i believe they are one of the most succesful/proffesional bands on the scene who have yet to be signed.the rauncher is a class new tune.i was sweating like a "paedo in a playground" with my "infected trooper" outfit but it was worth it and cool to get a mention.the pit had grown compared to the earlier sets.but it was all good fun.Pauls rendition of Psycho Surgery was top notch.
an awesome surprise in between Mutant and Gama Bomb was the Sodom cover set!!!great work and great versions
then for the ultimate end to a great day...GAMA BOMB
utter crazyness from the first 5 seconds and throughout.apart from a few minor incidents from a group of 4-6 south amercan looking guys who seemed to not be playing fairly and were cowardly bullying/annoying a few people in the mosh including myself and Carl as well as some younger lads but half of these idiots were thrown out anyway due to being rowdy so that was handy.
but sod them,i was singing along and enjoying every second.i started off in my zombie outfit and didnt expect to be called up on stage to handout some hammers myself(although id prepared them earlier)so it was a real surprise even for me and an honour.that hammer pit was insane and loonier than i could have predicted but it was all good fun.(i had to ditch the mask as i couldnt see shit and the lenses steamed up and hammers were twisting it round so i was technically blind
)
so many Gama Bomb songs were karaokied into Phillys mic due to the amount of fans knowing the songs inside out these days.
also Carl managed to mace everyone with the silly string(thanks for the string Tom,shame you had to head back so soon
)
the wildest,most upliftingly thrashingly,partyingly enjoyable set so far from Gama Bomb and i cant wait for the euro tour with Bonded by Blood in the coming months.
on the whole a really special,memorable day which went extremely well!a one of a kind,rare opportunity to catch this great line up and meet up with all who attended.
i will post my youtube vids soon(when my laptop is sorted)
also to those who dont know Carl:he plays in a death/thrash/hardcore London based band call Sigil.
to anyone who thought he was intimidating(when i first saw Sigil at a Nebukadnezza gig i thought a few of Sigil were scary too:lol: )he is actually one of the friendliest people youll ever meet and he will be at many more future thrash gigs.i know he was considered crazy in the mosh by some but it was just to get a bit of action started.he always helps up the youngsters and even signals to people to barge him back and smiles throughout.plus being straight edge,heis always 100% sober so never gets out of hand.
he stayed at mine after Apocalyptic Rage up until yesterday eve and we listened to bands from the Rage night,watched 2019:after the fall of new york
and played snes/ps2 etc so he is a friendly,down to earth dude(justlike the rest of us
)
Sigil are playing in kingston fighting cocks pub this friday if anyone wants to come with me to check them out/show support etc
just let me know in a PM or somethin.
