Firstly, you say you left it out because of poor production and simplistic riffs, well that must mean there were no worthy riffs on the first 5 sabbath albums then eh???? And secondly, the snippets of songs you are putting in the vids are actually that, excerpts of songs, not individual riffs, so why not just complie your top 10's to include 10 songs by each band, embracing structure, production, technical ability and your subjective overall listenability for each list??
Im not being pissy, just think what you set out to do isnt what you did, and to me it was a pointless exercise.
Sabbath ruled way before Thrash Metal. But if that style was relevant in the Thrash era, that's how everyone would have played. But Thrash Metal is a different genre so not sure where that comparison came from. They did HEAVY before anyone else. I thought the productions and songs were awesome for their time. Again comparing DA We Have Arrived to first five Sabbath albums is dodgy territory. Which has survived the test of time?
If you could split the thrash genre, I must admit to being a big fan of Progressive Thrash. Mekong Delta are big favourites of mine. So my taste in Riffs tend to take that into account so these Top 10s are very much MY Top 10s.
But what lot's of punters want is to put 30 tracks in a Top 10. When you get round to creating one people realise you have to leave great Riffs out.
And everyone shouts 'You've left out this great Riff or that great Riff'.
But what nobody ever does is say what Riffs you should remove.
Then if you removed those Riffs someone else would have a bitch and call you a 'Nob' for leaving those out .
As for not being what was intended, well there aren't really any strict rules here. I note down riffs I like, but if I started and stopped clips just at that Riff the whole thing would get very dull.
So I compromise and try and find a start and end point that makes the clip a bit more listenable so it may end up a Riff Sequence.
I even try and get more than 10 Riffs if there are enough good ones to go in the 10 min YouTube limit.
There could be some hardcore thrashers here who seen and heard all the bands in question. There may be very little in it for them (That's probably the category for DianWei - Peace Man ).
The most benefit comes from thrashers who are fairly new to the genre and get to hear new bands. See the Artillery Top 10. Someone bought the first 2 Artillery CDs after listening to that and think they're sick albums.
But as I said before it's fantastic someone can get so passionate a about a band that I love.
I'm starting to like this board. It just needed someone to stoke the fire.
