Let's discuss some of our favourite illustrators of metal covers!
My favourite is Kris Verwimp, some of his stuff is mindblowing:

And the one that brings tears of love to my eyes:
P.S. Please don't all say Ed fucking Repka - yes, he's obviously good but let's discuss some others.

That last one's amazing. I enjoy the man who does the Opeth cover art. He's mentioned in that Terrorizer article that appeared in the same issue as the UKThrash article. The Blackwater Park album art is really really good. Quite simple, but very atmospheric, and it really suits the music. Nice.

I love this cover by Necrolord
here a some more of his great covers
The guy is also an accomplished musician, having played in grotesque (the pre- at the gates band), diabolique, liers in wait, and the great deciever.

Not of of his are as great, but Andreas Marschall has done some killer covers, ie Immolation (Here in After, Dawn of Possession, Failures for Gods), Obituary (The End Complete), In Flames (The Jester Race).
Obviously Chris Moyen is incredible too: http://perso.orange.fr/chrismoyen/enter.htm
Some of my mates think he's too cartoony, but I think generally his art is really sick and morbid.

Oh yeah, add Sacramentum's 'Far Away From the Sun' to the list of killer Necrolord covers - outstanding cover for an outstanding and highly underrated record.

That's the cover of the old Rogue Trader rulebook. Crimson Fists Space Marines fighting Orcs. The same guy did Sabbat's debut and Bolt Thrower's third, Warmaster.
God fucking damnit I knew those years of 40k would come back to haunt me.

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

I think he's got some great works to his name, but I find his style very samey, especially as it seems to be almost in the rulebook to get a Chris Moyen black and white cover if you are a certain type of band.

Those are two of the best covers I have ever seen!
Also, Derek Riggs kind of goes without saying really, but the Seventh Son, Somewhere In Time and Powerslave covers are also some most wonderful metal album covers in the world.

I think we have had this thread before, and i said then, Rodney Matthews is awesome. I also like the work of Boris Vallejo, Alan Craddock, (the aforementioned) Moyen, geiger, and Dan Seagrave

I'm a big fan of Joe Petagno, the guy who does Motorhead's album art. I've got one of his designs tattooed on my arm, it rules.
This is the Petagno tat I have. (I probably can't even spell his name right!)
The guy that does the Morbid Angel album art is awesome too.
