Was that really 23 fookin years ago??!!!!
You bet i remember that place. As a yokel from the cundry i thought i'd died and gone to heavy metal heaven the first time i set foot in that place. First albums i bought there were ride the lightning and Flotsam & Jetsam's Doomsday for the deceiver

I got it from Shades in London (anyone remember that shop?! I met Metallica there once!)

thrash
When we used to go skating, I used to bring my shitty old boombox tape player with me and my mate brought a tape of slayer - seasons in the abyss. I nearly died when i heard the intro of war ensamble! That's how i got into thrash.

Kill Em All
When i first heard that i was totally fuckin blown away, i hadn't ever listened to anything remotely metal before that, it did actually change me from a wee skinny fanny with a skin head listening to bonkers, to the fat, hairy bastard that i am today haha.

Handle With Care...Nuclear Assault.
I was a Maiden fan before that and Nuclear Assault opened me up into a whole new world of thrash.

It might seem odd but I really don't have an answer to this question. I just shifted to thrash really after dabbling in various forms of 'extreme' metal, wanted to look back to where those sounds were influenced from.
I then realised that in fact these earlier bands are usually more intense and indeed "brutal", but still kept the link with elements of my original heavy metal love.

Ok, there are two.
The first one, unsuprisingly enough, is Master of Puppets. I swapped an Extreme album (I think it was Pornograffiti) with a mate for Master of Puppets, originally just for a couple of days. I listened to it on the way home on the school bus and it was like nothing I had ever heard. This was early 90's and I owned the Black Album but this was something totally different. It just opened my eyes to what could be done with music.
Then, a few years later having been a huge Metallica fan all this time, I went out and bought Youthanasia and Rust in Peace at the same time. I played 'Reckoning Day' and thought, yeah, this is pretty cool. But then I put on 'Holy Wars...' and it just totally crushed. I remember the ridiculous grin on my face when I heard it for the first time. Sick shit.

Yeah, that was fucking killer dude. I had heard Slayer and other heavy shit, but this, for me, just summed up exactly what I wanted out of heavy music and virtuosity. I suppose another album that made me feel that way was 'Vulgar Display of Power', it was the first Pantera album I had ever bought and I just thought it was beyond heavy. It's not thrash though so I guess I shouldn't really go on about it here!
