I just got a new Ibanez bass, SRX590 TGF Extreme Soundgear active malarkey, 2 massive humbucker doo dahs, it looks lovely and sounds lovely, so I'm happy with it for the moment. Hopefully the cheapness of Ibanez won't cause me too many problems. At the moment I absolutely love it, so hopefully it won't fail me!

Hope you enjoy your new bass Mr Craig.

So has it arrived yet?

So your real motive emerges - the need for a new WWRY signatures canvas!!

Nope, it was posted today and is due on Friday by Parcelforce, my StrapLoks were apparantly signed for at work yesterday though, so I need to track those down :)

 To be honest I did actually think about doing that, but it doesn't seem worth it to retire the Peavey fully when it's still completely playable (and besides, I'm not sure what type of pen would work on the non-laquered wood).

The Tanglwood will probably be going in for one final batch of signatures at some point - I've got plans for a display case for it as well, but it depends how easy it is to build.

Well ... it's arrived!

It sounds absolutely stunning, it really does beat the Peavey into the ground. The active electronics and especially the piezo pickups on the bridge really do give it an extra dimension and a hell of a lot more clarity, and the higher frets are easier to reach than on the Peavey as well.

The bass does need a proper set-up and a string change, as the G-string is hilariously low and what used to be the protective coating used by Elixir has all but stripped off the strings (I think these are still the stock ones), and there are a few tiny scratches but it's to be expected for a second-hand bass really.

The neck is a bit thicker than the Peavey, but I actually slightly prefer it. Once it's been fully setup and restrung, it should play like an absolute dream - I'll be buying a set of Rotosound Jazz 77 flatwounds in the next few days.

Overall, very, very, very pleased with it given the price: £205 posted. Bargain. :D

I've used them for years, primarily the Steve Harris SH77 Signature series, but there's really no difference between them and the standard Rotosound 77s other than heavier gaugue. I quite like the slight thud you get and the brightness as well, but they do tend to die pretty quickly.

I was disappointed following that other pics link to find no shot of you doing the Steve Harris pose. It clearly hasn't been fully "broken in" until that inevitable shot surfaces.

 I'm sure that will come in time.

Maybe, but I can detune the Peavey to B-E-A-D and still get it sounding relatively good and having it relatively playable. Not sure why, but I prefer heavier gaugues, seems to give a bit of a beefier sound.

My strings are like floss. You can barely see my high C.
