How come I can only have one 100x100 and other people have bigger ones? Cue jokes about my small one...

I've just had a play about with the CSS and any avatar that is above 100 pixels wide will be resized to 100 pixels (keeping aspect ratio) - whether they're hosted on UK Thrash or not
