I love Opeth, never got to see them live yet though - they always seem to pass by when I don't have any money left.

My favourite album is Still Life, followed maybe by Blackwater Park, but I've played that to death. I also really, really like Damnation... that took about 2 years to grow on me though

Oh yes indeed, well done Jamie. That Manchester gig really was one of the higlights of my life. I wouldn't call Opeth the best non-thrash band in the world though... that title goes to Tool. Opeth are fucking immense. They are the lords of apocalyptic doom but also of ultimate loveliness. Mikael is indeed a lordy vocalist, the way he effortlessly switches between growling death and lovely nice is amazing, absolutely amazing, bloody goodness. My favourite album is definitely Ghost Reveries, I suppose because it's the first one I bought, and it's what really got me into Opeth. Blackwater Park is a close second, with Still Life and Deliverance joint third I think. Damnation is amazing as well though... and so are all the others. What an unbelievable band indeed. I find they are one of those bands that you can really get your teeth into, you really get hooked and can't ever stop listening to them. I bloody love it. Like a face.

they were probably one of the first remotely prog bands I got into, and yeah, along with Tool I think they pretty much headline the genre. Black Rose Immortal is an immense track, pretty much second only to The Wall. Fav album is probably Still Life, beautiful imo.

Oh man, if you can listen to the band Comus. They're a weird proggy acid folk band from the 70's. The title was stolen from a lyric of there's from the song Drip Drip. It's a fucking twisted song about horrendously killing someone and burying them. "As I carry you to your grave, my arms you hearse" It really gives me the willies... Conjures twisted images in my mind. Man what a line.

But back on topic, Opeth are fucking great. My favourite track is still Baying of the Hounds from Ghost Reveries. Well it could be my favourite, but more importantly I'm going to tell you that that title is also stolen from Comus. Herald I think. "He goes by the sound of the baying, the baying of the hounds."

That could be why opeth are so appealing and different to other bands in the death genre. They have a real influence from many fantastic proggy bands of the 60s/70s.

Mikael Åkerfeldt is the fucking man! He can sing properly and his chest voice is totally brutal - I don't reckon too many people can do both so well. He's awesome in Bloodbath too, although my favourite album is Nightmares Made Flesh with Peter Tägtgren - 'Eaten' owns :rockdevil:

Blackwater Park, Damnation and Deliverence are my favourite albums, but the others aren't exactly shit. Their sound is awesome live too, can't go wrong with a bit of Opeth!

I really like Bloodbath, but I thought that the album with Tagtgren on (and in particular the horribly cheesy 'Eaten') was nowhere near as good as the first album and EP.

That's "Nightmares Made Flesh" according to my CD collection. Bloodbath are fucking awesome, but the best track on that album is blatantly the demo version of Breeding Death.

This sounds stupid but I've totally disregarded Bloodbath so far due to their band name and logo - I assumed they were another brutal/gore band: a genre I despise. Didn't look into it at all though, so totally my fault for missing out it seems.
