Yeah, it is. Basically emo originated with bands like Embrace (Mackaye's band between Minor Threat and Fugazi) and Rites of Spring (who also included a future Fugazi member) and from there included Get-Up Kids and Drive Like Jehu. Now of course, it's all uber-poppy and not emotional music at all.

Well said. I think the "style of Hardcore Punk" thing is about the only thing the Daily Mail has ever got correct, even though it was probablly unintentional. Also "emo" isn't about being sad because your girlfriend left you, it's about a range of emotions. The majority of the people who played it at time tend to hate the term emo or emocore anyway.

I still suprises me that so many "metal heads" etc. take what the media portrays as "emo" to be fact, after all the bitching and mocking they do when the same media label a shite band as thrash, metal or whatever.

My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco etc pretty much are to emo what Disturbed, Popa Roach etc is to metal.
