I think I actually dislike Hip Hop and Rap more than Thrash. I can listen to Soul and decent MOBO with bass lines and such but cannot stand anything that basically goes along the lines of:

This motherfucker ain't no hustler
True to game, down with the Gs
Clipped that bitch 'cause she didn't dig the way I rolled.

Or whatever.

A lot of gangsta rap is a crock of shit. However, there is plenty of good hip hop. Public Enemy, NWA (were they gangsta? if so the exception), Immortal Threat, Tribe, Wu-Tang and GZA's Liquid Swords, Daelek, The Roots, Dead Prez. Mikhalik (sorry about spelling) seems to be the most into this stuff (his sig used to be Necro's Pre-Fix album cover).

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

Everyone who's into metal usually puts down gangsta rap as being a load of shit and fake and I don't understand it. Yes, we get it, you like "intelligent" Hip Hop like J5 etc etc, but it doesn't mean gangsta rap is a 'crock of shit'. I see it in the same way as some metal in that just as I want to put Meshuggah on and head bang while playing on my laptop or put Slayer on and air drum a long to Angel of Death, I want to listen to Snoop Dogg sing about how he's fucked some bitches. It's all good.

Precisely. Listening to a gangster rap singing about 'clipping' people is the same as hearing some jumped up metal fun boy go "AND THE WORLD WAS DECIMATED BECAUSE OF THE ANNIHILATION THAT HAPPENED!!1111". Same rules apply, it can just be fun to listen to.

 I looked forward to the next Heretic classic 'The Annihilation that Happened'. Genius.

Regardless. Lyrics are a big deal to me. As a big PC boy I don't like lyrics a la 'A Bitch is a Bitch' or 'It's so Easy'. However, I feel lyrics and vocal style is far more prevalent and significant on hip-hop. I personally have no time for 2 Pac because the lyrics are inane and the music is dull. Biggie, by contrast, is awesome because his lyrics are great (when he's not talking about fucking up 'niggaz' or fucking 'bitches') and the music has a quality sinister edge. Bottom line though, a lot of proper gangsta 'west side' 'east side' shit is just that: a crock of shit.

first two eminem albums are pr0n. plan b, dre, nwa.

i think what happened to metal has also happened to hip hop. mtv raped it then stuffed it into a marketable can for wiggers in shell suits to enjoy. judging hip hop by the likes of 50 cent and soulja boy is like judging metal by listening to slipknot and korn

Indeed, I thought about this when I was doing my popular music history module at uni. Metal and hip-hop share so many similarities in the history of it's culture. Both have faced problems of censorship and have been made ridiculous by the MTV generation. But both also have underground and tr00 acts where the true meaning of the genre can be found and enjoyed by many a mortal man. Both genres of music also come from a strong sense of rebellion against the empire, it's just unfortunate that both cultures generally hate each other and don't understand that we have a common cause. Hip-hopsters have guns and gangsters, metallians have swords and warriors. Both want to fight against oppression, but also end up wanting to oppress each other.

Similar.
