EUROPEAN - V - AMERICAN

RETRO THREAD - 2006

A tough question... Where does the best thrash caome from? What is your favorite style and why? GO!

After listening to American thrash for years I have recently converted to European thrash metal bands, it has more identity. bands like Destuction are so instantly recognisable and I prefer German vocals (partly due to the humour) also they have stayed true to the melodies of old school metal. As a purist id call the europeans speed metal...

I guess that you could bass this on what sounds good at the time but on the whole im sticking with European stuff at moment.

beat me to it! haha

It certainly is a tough one, because there are some great American bands who could certainly be grouped with the Europeans in terms of style.

At the moment, I think I would also say European - I find I don't get tired of it as much as some of the more typical American sounding bands, and I really appreciate the harsher edge a lot of them have.

Saying that, thrash without the American bands would not be half what it is now, and sometimes you've just got to love the chugging Bay Area onslaught!

What about thrash from the UK? That's the future!! hehehe

American. The only Euro thrash bands that I've ever really loved are Vendetta and Coroner - all the rest I like, but don't think are that special.

on the whole, american thrash is better than european thrash, bands like 'demolition hammer', 'viking', 'agent steel', 'testament', 'wargasm' and 'death'??

but i think we definetly ruled all things metal, by creating the whole nwobhm genre with bands like saxon, iron maiden, judas priest, whitesnake, raven, motorhead, tank, venom. THE UK IS AN UNSTOPPABLE METAL FORCE!................from hell

Personally, I like them both equally. Saying that US Thrash bands have no identity is absurd.

You can't do that to me!!!!

That's like pitting ur parents against each other!!
Destruction Vs Testament?
Kreator Vs Overkill
Sodom Vs Sacred Reich etc etc etc!

I can't do it! Oh i can, Kreator are my favourite band, so it has to be european!
But that was proper harsh!

American for me. I always thought the British thrash bands never took themselves seriously enough to make it and this held them back. My example would be Acid Reign. Fucking awesome band with some killer songs, but because they liked to have a laugh and muck about live i don't think anyone ever really took them serious outside of the UK. That is possibly why the UK thrash acts never broke the states. Still think Sabbat and Xentrix should have been way bigger than they were.

How about South American stuff? Granted, a lot of the bands trod the line between thrash and death, but stuff like 'Immortal Force' and 'The Laws of Scourge' are total classics, not to mention Vulcano, Atomic Aggressor, Pentagram (Chi), etc, etc.

Couldnt possibily choose, seeing as I like a fuck load of bands from both sides of the globe. But I probablly listen to american, or bands from that side of the globe (south america and canada included) and listen to them more often.

Europe by miles and miles and miles.

Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Onslaught, Sabbat, Xentrix, Re-animator, Holy Moses, Exumer, Cerebral Fix, Assassin, Deathrow - all amazing.

The Bay Area does have some of the best Thrash bands to its name though i.e. Exodus, Laaz Rockit, Heathen and Vio-lence.

Canada has Razor who are up there too.

America has more bands that suck e.g. Testament!

*ducks*

hhmmmmm......

This week it American thrash cos I'm listening to Sadus and Municipal Waste. But last week it was European cos I was listening to Destruction and Kreator......

It too hard of a decision....can't we all just live under the flag of Thrashtopia and be free to drink our beer together as one happy Thrashing Family?
