So, all the petitions and opposition raised against it's closure came to nought in the end then. Surprising, eh?
This undoubtedly means the end of The Fiddler aswell.
I am not happy.
Bye bye, Astoria.

I have to say...it's not exactly a massive disaster. It was a cool sized venue in central London I suppose, but... that's about it, surely?
I guess it was nice to see some quite big bands without going somewhere like Hammersmith or Brixton though.

It was about the placement, it was a good venue as well, i just hope they don't turn around and say 'oh, ...well seeing as the garage is reopening, this will be its replacement'

That's a shame. I saw one of the best gigs I've ever been to at The Astoria.

It's just yet another venue in London that's being closed down. Soon there won't be anything left but flats and McDonalds. And I bet there won't be a replacement venue, Livingstone is bloody wanker who talks a load of shit.

just remember how lucky you all are who live in london. Most bands who come to the uk play london. It is the rest of us who have to travel miles for ANY gig. I took my kids to the science and natural history museums last sunday, and it cost me £80 by the time petrol, food and underground fees were paid for, and this is with admission being free as well, and the trip was 13 hours in total. Stop all your fucking bleating cuz you may have to go 4 more stops on the tube to get to a gig.

In the hopes that everyone will 'belong' to a mass group of meat-headed twats that enjoy drinking rat piss brew.

Re: Bye bye, Astoria.
I've never been there. Is it an old building or something?
This reminds me of the on-going debate about the Barrowland in Glasgow. Pretty good venue but it's fucking ancient and whenever it seems to be threatened, people get going with petitions. I don't see why a petition would make a difference if the building could be talked into collapsing though.

Really? This has been going on for something like 5 years now. I believe the original intention was to build flats/hotels to accomodate the surge of visitors come 2012.

That's what happened to the Oxford Zodiac. They still put some good metal gigs on there but apparently it's a pile of indie wank now Ruining my finest memories of rocking out and seeing Anthrax play like the best show ever!

Really? Went to see Megadave the other week. They checked my bag and missed the 2 knives I was carrying.
It sucks this place is gonna go, I saw Anthrax and Slayer there about 4 or 5 years ago in the space of 4 days. Both gigs fucking slayed!! Maybe the best venue in the country in my opinion. It's big enough to house bands as big as Slayer but smaller than like an arena gig, so it's usually a more intense gig at the Astoria. I signed petitions ages ago but I never expected anything to come of it. I don't understand why people think getting 10000 signatures or whatever is ever gonna help, they treat it like a hard and fast rule: "if we get so many signatures then they won't tear it down". Ultimately it's up to whoever owns the place to do what they want to do with it, and if they want to turn it into a flower shop or a crack house or some shit then no one can stop them. Anyone else notice they only seem to be interested in what indie bands had to say in that news report? So we're getting a new Academy then?
Bollocks
I'm going to
Tear your fuckin' eyes out,
Rip your fuckin' flesh off,
Beat you 'till you're just a fucking lifeless carcass,
Fuck you and your progress,
Watch me fucking regress,
You were made to take the fall,
Now you're nothing!!
