I only really got into metal because I liked it. I still can't go out without expecting someone to make a comment about my long hair though, it doesn't happen that often but when it does it comes as no supprise. I feel I'm generally accepted by most people, but there will probably always be that snobbiness out there where people think you're not as good as them because of how you look. I have no time for people like that, I'm happy with who I am and no one's gonna make me change.

yeah man! I always take it as a joke if anyone says anything to me about the way im dressed or my hair... I have actually laughed in people's faces, it's much better than getting annoyed because the person has NO IDEA how retarded they sound trying to take the piss, and then get confused cos you're laughing AT them!

I got into metal when i was 9, and to this day i dont know why! My mum was a mod in the 60s and my dad was a teddy boy, they both hated my choice of music and hoped id grow out of it...............i didnt!
My mum hated it when i had long hair, now i have no hair she hates my beard hahahaha.
It was all about the music. I cant remember why i started listening to metal, i know i used some pocket money when i was 9 to buy kiss i was made for loving you, probably for the cover, and liked it, it was followed soon after by ac dc, motorhead and judas priest, and decided i liked the heavier stuff more, then in 1980, discovered venom.....
none of it therefore was to be part of a crowd or a scene or to fit in / not fit in. as i wasnt in a crowd / scene etc, it was purely the music.
When i moved and went to a secondary school, there were a few metalheads there anyway and we all hung around together in the mainpart.
I didnt chose metal, it chose me.........not a cliche, just how it was!
