Anyone into Rush at all? I have a best of compilation which was given to me by a friend and I think they are fucking wicked, such cool energy and the songwriting is incredible.
I like how they are all amazing musicians but they don't choose to wank around in the songs with overly technical parts but instead serve the song as best as they can.

Can anyone make any recommendations? Cheers.

Rush recommendations? Fly By Night and Hemispheres are the only 2 I've heard, and they're both really good!!!!!

Yeah, they are such a good band, the song Fly By Night is on my compilation. Its bloody good. I dig the vocals too (Geddy Lee or something?) and the drumming is ridiculous coming from Niel Pert.

I need to get into them. What I've heard is amazing. I remember I had to learn Tom Sawyer when I was 16 in the band I was in. Needless to say, it was never played live.

That such a cool song! The keyboard riff that comes in after his little 'rap' part is mind melting.

I listened to some of one album a little while ago (2112 or something like that, some sort of numbers), and it sounded really good, though I wasn't too sure about Geddy Lee's vocals. I imagine they'll take some getting used to, just like old Halford did back in 2001 when I started listening to him (I remember hearing Live Insurrection, and when Resurrection's intro came on I thought 'who the fuck is this, he sounds like a chipmunk!' but back then I didn't know much about 'real' metal, just that Iron Maiden and Tool were great).

The drummer is unbelievable though, good lord. They have a live thing, 'Rush In Rio', and the drum solo on that dvd is beyond belief. Really unbelievable, for goods sake.

Ah. Rush. Fantastic band. Didn't actually see them until I moved to the U.S. - they tour every couple of years and they're well worth seeing. Neil Peart is in my opinion far and away the best drummer in the world. He can play anything. Both Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are amazing musicians also. As for recommendations, I'd say ...

2112
Moving Pictures
Exit...Stage Left (live double album - good place to start)
A Farewell To Kings
Hemispheres

If you PM me your address, I can bang all their albums on a CD in mp3 format for you if you like (all 26 or 27 of them).

Got Farewell to Kings. Excellent stuff. Definitely want to check out more. Will b going for Hemispheres next, I think, as I've heard good things.

The track "The Analog Kid" from "Signals" has what's probably one of my top three favourite guitar solos of all time in it. Great stuff.

Rush are the greatest band of all time!
Totally check out Rush in Rio if you haven't already, it's radical.
My favourite album by them is Permanant Waves. Its got Spirit of Radio and Freewill on it, plus Natural Science, which is mind blowing. Moving Pictures is a killer too.
I also love Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows from their mid 80s synth-y period.
I killed Reanimator.

Thought I'd resurrect some Rush appreciation! Bought Snakes and Arrows fairly recently and it's my first exploration into new era Rush. Nice to see they still got it. They've changed a fair bit from the stuff I have (Farewell to Kings, Moving Pictures - HOW AWESOME! Permanent Waves) but I really like. I'd say I prefer it to Permanent Waves. Definitely want to grab some more of their stuff, their debut actually sounds really cool, though it's a lot more straight-forward and I still haven't heard 2112!

The new DVD as been given lots of praise too. I'm tempted.
