Living in London
What's it like? I've applied to 3 Unis there but I'm worried about living costs and all that shit...I did live there when I was younger but that's not really student life haha. There's just so many gigs!

It's alright, it's a bit shit but everything's in London so it's quite good, but it's so expensive you can't really do any of it and so you have to get a shit job and get annoyed everyday about how crap this city is. Also there are cunts everywhere, so watch out. But as you have pointed out, on the plus side there are lots of gigs. But they're always in the same venues because there are many good little venues around, only big ones for big boys. So basically it's crap, go to uni somewhere else. I wouldn't go to uni in London, and I've lived here my whole life.

If it's anything like visiting the place, then expensive and shit.
My brother and his bird lived there for a while and now that they have a child they say they miss the myriad of things that London has. Personally, I've been there four or five times and just hated how rude everyone is. Saying that, I've never spent any considerable length of time there so my opinion might be a bit unfounded.

I lived in Leeds for 3 years when I went to uni, and generally people are a lot nicer and more talkative there. The only people in London who talk to you are the ones from up north, or crazy drunken old idiots in pubs. Then again, there are also loads of psychos up north so it's hard to choose. If I could afford it one day though, I'd like to move out of London. But then again, trying to get into the music industry (sound engineering wise) would be a lot more difficult away from the city. Bloody hell, what a to do!

I wouldn't base a uni choice entirely on the city dude.
But yeh, as Jon says, Leeds is a bloody nice city, although has a rubbish metal scene.

It's fine. It is expensive, but you pay for the quirks that living in London is about. Expensive rent, expensive drinks, but what other town gives you such nightlife for the rock / metal scene with (and as much as I will forever moan about how gay and rubbish it is, it's still pretty..) good transport.
(please don't answer the above question )
There are dickheads around, just be a bit streetwise, you'll learn where to go and where not to go pretty quickly!
Plus, gigs, everywhere. If you're a bloke, lots of hot chicks.
If you're a chick. ..PM me !

I think it's pretty ace. In general what large city isn't going to have a bunch of cunts?
I'm having a pretty fucking good time, but I also don't like money, so I spend it as quick as it get it.

I sometimes pine for the rolling green fields and timeless parochial architecture of an Oxford or a Cambridge, but there are pros and cons wherever you go.
Cons - money. I'm paying about £120 per week for this hall room. A house/flat is hard to find for that price. Too many people. Noisy. Totally urban, obviously.
Pros - loads of things to do and see, if you have time, accessible transport (most of the time), loads going on music wise and social wise.
I'd probably recommend it - correct me if I'm wrong but don't you get a bigger student loan anyway if you study in London?

Last time I went there I ended up in some place called North Woolwich or something? Ugh, rough west ham fans and dizzee rascal clones everywhere. I despise London so very much, city living must be hell.

I don't actually live in the city centre, so it's not too bad for me personally, and there are some really nice places around the outside of London, despite everything I said earlier. But of course those nice places are just for the rich people. Well I suppose it's alright actually where I live, it could be worse, I could be Donny and live near Wood Green. But if you're going to uni in London I imagine you'll be living somewhere in/near the city centre, so it won't be so nice for you, unless you like that sort of thing. A lot of people I met up in Leeds seemed to think London was the greatest place on earth and I couldn't understand why.
EDIT: What I forgot to leave out is that even though I live in a fairly nice area, I still live with my parents, and I would, at the moment, find it near-impossible to afford to move out into a decent area in London. So basically, yes it is rubbish unless you're rich or living with parents in a nice place outside the centre. I can easily have a night of fun in the centre of town, but that doesn't mean i want to live there.

Well if you live RIGHT in the centre, then it's actually quite nice. Aside from all the traffic, the Bloomsbury area where my hall is is really nice, (well, "nice" in terms of relatively clean, well lit, lots of shops) plus it's walking distance to my campus.

I would. What's the point in doing a course for 3 years if it's in some shit hole? Everyone should just go to Sheffield, not too many cunts up here.
Well obviously if it's shite enough to put you off, don't go.

Yeah, at least a grand more. I can't believe that you pay pretty much double what I pay for half of a two bedroom flat though!

£480 a month?
That's extortionate!
