The fair few women that I've played bits of thrash to can see an appeal in it. It may not be their favourite music but they like a lot of it. I do think there is a very 'macho' image to thrash because it is part of metal. You go from Zeppelin (Whole Lotta Love), to DC (any song) to thrash and there's the same element of misogyny or sexism. Off the top of my head:

SOD (admittedly, a bit tongue-in-cheek).
Evildead (Bend over! Here it comes again!)
Annihilator (Burns like a Buzzsaw Blade)
Venom (Teacher's Pet)

True, not all of these are explicitly sexist but we're definitely looking at songs most women would not write. I think punk - especially more modern, scene-type punk - is a bit more encompassing for women. Paint it Black, for example:

"I'm not going to settle for "nice guys finish last," or treat our sisters as second class. While we conquer and earn, slash and burn. Concrete, steel and pavement everywhere I turn."

Linking capitalism, competition and environmental destruction all to the machismo of our society.

That being said, there have been women in thrash. Look at Detente.

Thinking about it. I don't know why hip-hop or r'n'b gets 'all the bitches and hos' because it's at least equal to metal in it's sexism. I mean, A Bitch is a Bitch is a looooooooooooong way from a love ballad.

The is in that song is actually 'Iz' but an amazing song none the less. I love NWA. One Less Bitch is another song of theirs, possibly even further away from a love ballad.

As soon as I read the title, I thought of all these points. It doesnt take a genius to figure out why more girls are involved in punk / hardcore than metal.
Also, bands like bikini kill and hole etc have allowed women to get involved into punk / alternative music, there have never been any metal equivalents to this.

Yes, basicaly, this is iteer. The reason we like girls who like metal is not because they like metal, it's because they have something in common with us, and that something just happens to be the best thing in all our lives. Which is metal. And therefore we like girls who like metal because we like metal and girls, not because we like girls who like metal just because they like metal.

Clear, yes? Nice.
