Speed Problems, Errors and Image Size Issues

Postby Craig on Sun Apr 06, 2008 10:27 pm

I've now isolated the problem behind all of the server errors and general forum speed problems - my own bodged code that I wrote to resize images bigger than 500 pixels  .

Basically, the code downloaded the image from the server to get the width of it, then downloaded it again when it was viewed on the page - so essentially doubling the page-load time.

I've taken the code out and reverted back to the old size limits until I can figure out a new way of resizing the images.

To be fair it is going lightning fast for me now, so I take my hat off to thee (while pointing and laughing at thy coding blunderz)

Is there any need to resize pics? It seems ok now and never seemed to be a major issue before.

Well if people don't mind the 500-pixel limit then I guess I don't need to try and figure out a new way of reszing. The reason I've got a limit on the widths is that images bigger than 500 pixels wide break the site layout at low resolutions (800x600 mainly).

No, I'd rather them resized than blocked, I meant is there any need for a cap on size at all. That said, I do have a 20" widescreen.

Bastard, I'm only 19"!

It does tend to piss me off when I can't post an image, but it's just something to work on really, not a disaster..

Oh yeah, totally, not like it's a major issue. Anyway I found a solution. Write a bit of code so that if anyone who has less than a 17" regular screen trys to view an image, their PC explodes. Problem solved!

Why don't, images be what ever size they are, but the forum size has a limit, so no matter what size the image is your post is the same size, and you just have scrolly bars in your post.

I'd love to plug our TV into the PC.

UkThrash on a 42" Sony Bravia. Oooo.
