Which Onslaught album between Power From Hell and The Force is your favourite and why?
This evolved from a discussion with Southwestthrasher about these two albums.
He is firmly in The Force's camp, while I still prefer Power From Hell.

The Force may be more developed in terms of songwriting, but I think Power From Hell has far more character with it's raw punky angle and rough-sounding vocals (which I prefer to the at times silly wails of The Force). Power From Hell manages to create a really dark feel with the grim guitar tone and vocal style, which I don't think The Force was able to recapture. Classic tracks like 'Death Metal' and 'Power From Hell' stamp out a blunt statement that Onslaught meant business in a no nonsense back to basics way, and in that sense they achieved something more than the average thrash sound.
On The Force, to me, the riffs take on much more of a typical approach not dissimilar to Slayer (though I'm not saying they became a rip off), which although sometimes triumphantly successful - e.g. Let There Be Death - doesn't have the same attitude as the debut. There is no denying that musicianship wise, it stands as a significant departure from Power From Hell, as technical riffs in tracks like Metal Forces illustrate, but technicality isn't always the best thing.
In short, they are both great albums, but Power From Hell for me conjures a seriously sinister essence with the Tom G. Warrior style vocals and the gritty post-punk riffing which The Force could not trump, even though it has some great moments like Let There Be Death.

The force definetly, cos of its genius solution to thrash metal, no other band has an album similar and some of the sound on this album is breathtaking! i just think power from hell is slighly annoying in tems of the really grungy deep sound, plus the riffs are more nwobhm based which isnt a bad thing atall, it just dosnt give you the variation that the force does, tracks like fight with the beeast, metal forces and thrash till the death all make me wanna bang my head in ways i never imagined, whereas thermonuclear devastation and death metal, athough very strong contenders do seem to venture off a bit from the clearer, and insane riffage of the mighty FORCE!

I agree. Metal Iain says The Force has "a better vocalist" and "better riffs", which is highly subjective. Perhaps technically they are more developed, but that doesn't mean they make a better song.
The vocals on Power From Hell have way more aggression and attitude to me, and the riffs are just as effective in their own way.

Nah.
BBB is the threshold to which I compare all riffs.
