There should never, EVER be a mosh pit at a Judas Priest or Iron Maiden concert. EVER.

I went to see Judas Priest a few years ago, no trace of a pit at all. I mean, not even a good old fashioned one that' basically justa bunch of people jumping a bit and banging their heads. Easily one of the most civilised gigs I've been to, metal or otherwise.
I'm going to
Tear your fuckin' eyes out,
Rip your fuckin' flesh off,
Beat you 'till you're just a fucking lifeless carcass,
Fuck you and your progress,
Watch me fucking regress,
You were made to take the fall,
Now you're nothing!!

Pits & people going crazy are what make shows fun, espically metal gigs. Just watching a metal band is generally rather dull to be honest. I could go see a screamo band and just nod and listen and still enjoy it but if I did that for a metal band I'd be bored after a few songs. :?

Funny one - I was filling in on vocals for some band in swansea because their vocalist had gone on holiday (yeah Swansea - long story). Anyways, we played a decent show but halfway through one song the guitarist came over to me and pointed out a scene kid doing all that hardcore crap. So as soon as the song finished, we all just said to him "What the fuck was that? You realize how fucking stupid you look doing that? Right, look around you - first to your left, now your right, then look behind you - all these people want to kill you. Either sit the fuck down or GTFO"

Needless to say, he chose the former. Not so retarded after all I guess.

Talking to you is like clapping with one hand.

I was going to ask, clapping with one hand or moshing like a hardcore kid? Then I realised, it doesn't matter.

I disagree there. What is wrong with the band getting the crowd a bit fired up?
Ok in that case it was a result of something that went horribly wrong, but I don't see the harm in the band wanting to fire the crowd up with saying asking for a circle pit or to mosh or whichever, it's interaction with the crowd.

Agreed. Sometimes you have to give your crowd that little extra push.

Nah. When a band shouts "CIRCLE PIT" I just think "If we wanted to, we would be, k?"

I think its ok to give the crowd a bit of a push now and then but specifically telling them to do stuff irritates me too!
