Getting that guitar sound.

How do you get that guitar sound? The one that Entombed kind of started (I think). Lots of black metal and death metal bands have it. Sabbat's 'Dreamweaver' kind of has on the riffs aswell. It's kind of a scratchy sounding, crap but good, if you know what I mean? I think the band Darkthrone would be the most extreme example.

I hate crap guitar tones. Sure, it works for certain albums but there's no chance I'd be happy with the Bonded By Blood guitar sound myself.

Bass should only be 2 - 4. The vast majority of young guitarists I see play live have their tone dripping in bass and when it comes to soloing their sound is just lost.
