Bruce Dickinson solo joy

Postby jonny_boy34 on Sun Jul 12, 2009 12:29 pm

Is anyone a fan of Brucey's solo albums? I had a nice little listen to Tyranny of Souls this morning, and it's really quite good. Accident of Birth and The Chemical Wedding are the best most brilliant albums, but he's done some hilarious and good old fun rocking stuff, especially on the Tattooed Millionaire and Balls To Picasso albums, which also has some pretty terrible stuff too. It's quite funny, I guess he must've gone mad doing the same stuff over and over again with Maiden that he just had to get all this hilarious stuff out of his system before returning to good old metal again with Accident of Birth. Skunkworks is really good as well actually, there's an amazing song on it called Inertia which is lovely and brilliant.

Tyranny of Souls is a monster, really like that one! The only other one I have is Tattooed Millionaire, which I don't like very much.

You really should get Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding then, they're a bit better than Tyranny of Souls I think, and of the same sort of style, rather than the hilarious style of Tattooed Millionaire and those earlier albums.

I have heard the Chemical Wedding as well come to think of it - enjoyable, though I don't feel like purchasing any more of his albums any time soon.

Chemical Wedding and Tyranny of Souls are his best, I reckon. Followed by Accident of Birth.
I didn't like Tattooed Millionaire much either.

Chemical Wedding is a pretty slow sort of album, it can take a little while to get into. But it does have some real cracking songs on it, like Book Of Thel, The Alchemist, and Machine Men! Accident of Birth has a bit more of an Iron Maiden influence in it, a bit faster, and some lovely acoustic stuff on it too, quite a bit easier to get into and more instantly enjoyable than Chemical Wedding I reckon, but I think the latter one has a bit more depth to it. Both pretty amazing albums though, and better than the last two Maiden ones!

I think Tattooed Millionaire is the only one I haven't got, I may have to get it soon to complete the collection. I have heard a couple of tracks off it though, from 'The Best Of Bruce Dickinson' (hilarious), the title track on Born In '58, which is an awesome song!

Chemical Wedding hits some unbelievable heights of brilliance, but is brought down by a couple of related points:
a) It's too long
b) It's got very occasional awful nu-metal riffing moments (and usually these are the more disposable songs)

With a couple of songs trimmed down it would be approaching a 10/10 album.

Tyranny Of Souls ranks very highly on my list of favourite albums ever.

I've not listened to anything else but Balls To Picasso and i thought it was a load of shit. I'll have a look at Chemical Wedding a little later.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

I agree with point b definitely, that song Killing Floor is a prime example, with the cringe-worthy chorus of "SATAN!". Although even that song's got a cracking middle section with a brilliant 'woah-woah-woah' but in it. I love Bruce Dickinson, I love Iron Maiden, I love heavy metal, christ almighty!
